  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forged Weapon killing mags on power up

Hey Robert, this is my next step after I talk with support today. Trying not to do much I/O with the card until I get a better idea of what is possible for other recovery.

Hi Anthony, please let us know.

Hey Robert,

Spend yesterday morning talking with phone support about the subject. He seemed fairly confident in recovery - whether here at home or there at HQ, and had explained that REDUndead is non-destructive. It had been a long while since I've had to use it, so I wanted to be sure. (An officer asked me to delete all my footage of an abandoned building exterior one afternoon a few years ago... so I winked, formatted, and loaded it all back up at home.) Ran to the studio to an iMac with El Capitan (10.11) and got everything started. Very thankful for the update prompts mentioning the clip names, as there was a huge sigh of relief when I saw the first. Everything was recovered.

Yesterday I was more focused on recovery and deciding on a plan of action for a future pickup date if all was lost. Always coming prepared with a laptop on-set in the future, incase a DIT cannot be present. Today I'm going to follow up with RED Support with a ticket, the actions that lead to the error, log files, and whatever else they need. Despite being lucky enough to not have my Mag zapped, I'm still keeping the card aside incase they'd like to look at its contents in some way. (The support agent mentioned that there were one or two very, very rare scenarios where the card's formatting was broken and the card wouldn't mount. That's a problem for self-recovery.) It's still very odd that there are no invisible files, yet 360 GB of data is still amounted as "Used" on the card.

Anyway, still found it interesting that it was related to a battery swap. I'm not sure if the cold weather was a culprit as well, as I was having media recording issues (Error: 0x0000001d) in the cold weather on an older firmware last month - all since seemingly resolved since updating. Either way, it seems like everyone in this thread has had issues with a little a bit of variance, but all with similar ways of arriving to. I do still have full faith in my unit, but I'm going to make sure I Secure Format every card from now on.

I'll post more if RED Tech Support finds anything in the Log files.

I purchased a used Red 240GB media card and updated to the latest firmware. The memory card is not being red by the Red Epic Dragon camera. I updated the firmware to the latest, revert it back to older version, done secured format. Nothing works. I have a 512GB that does work on my Red Epic Dragon. Any suggestions?

Have you contacted RED?

Using build 6.3.78 on a Weapon Helium S35 the other day and noticed that my Mini Mags would not format. They came up with an error message of Mag not formatted and the mag never showed up on the monitor as if it were inserted. After going through 3 mags including the Red ones it came up each time with the same message even after going through the formatting steps. Regular formatting and the Utility, Secure Format.... After trying sever things, Rebooting and a few others. I went through the menus and changed the only thing I could think of that I had changed from the day before when we were shooting. Open Gate. I switched it off and then the mags formatted normally with no troubles at all.
I have no idea what Open Gate has to do with the formatting of the mags but thats what cleared up our problem.
I have sent in a log file and a note to RED to see if they can figure out how to duplicate it.
But I mention it here for what is worth for all who may be having similar problems.

Thats good news Anthony!

Hello Anthony,

Did you recover your footages?
I've also a mag that went unreadable on the Weapon MG after having shot 80% on it. No file structure but has 380GB present on the mag. Should I send it to RED or try Redundead?...

Thanks

Pat
