  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forged Weapon killing mags on power up

Just a reminder, this seems power related. Ie happened to OP after power down/battery swap.

Pehaps its the V-Mount module or connection? Ie some kind of power spike at shutdown or fire up?

Wild guess here... Is someone pulling the power source before the camera has completely shut down? Maybe they saw the monitor power down and quickly pulled the battery? I always wait to see the fans have stopped spinning. Just a thought.

First time was IDX Vmount plate with e-7s Battery plugged into the back of camera. Second time was ET gold mount plate with AB Digital 190 battery.

They had the first mag that errored and evidently spent 30+ hours trying to recover it. The job has already shipped so we had them stop. Haven't sent camera down yet.

Spent a fair bit of time trying to recreate this with 4X 512GB MINI-MAGs. Haven't gotten the error. I'm wondering if this is a format from a prior firmware update to newer firmware update thing?

We tried to re-create it with our Weapons on on a bunch of 512's - new and old. Cameras have the latest build. We could only do it when the media was ejected during record. That's certainly not normal practice of course. We then re-formatted the same care and it worked just fine.

Hmmm....so maybe this is isolated? To a few cameras? Or a few mags?

Hey Mark, just to triple check...so you guys powered down your cameras...and powered them up...and media was fine?

Yes. Would love to know the outcome. Weapon arriving soon with 512 mini mags and impending bookings. This really rattles the confidence. Hoping it is an isolated issue - but would love to hear what Red has to say. Subscribed to this thread and watching closely...

Agreed. I'm sure it's an isolated issue. But would love to know more, for peace of mind really!

To confirm, the few reports of issues (and you can count them on one hand and have fingers left over) have been WEAPON-related. This is NOT card-related, from what we have seen.

It does seem to be a firmware issue in the few cases where users had specific use cases (ie, settings, media remaining, etc). We feel our next beta release should resolve this.

If others who have NOT ALREADY submitted a support ticket who feel they have had this issue will please submit a ticket, the more info the better.

Thanks, guys, for bringing this to our attention. Even though this only bit a couple of people, we want you guys always sleeping tight when it comes to media security.

And I know Brent has made me feel safe, so much so that I feel that, during productions, he tucks me in at night. It's a warm and cozy feeling ;)

Thanks Brent!

I have captured hundreds, maybe thousands, of hours of footage on my REDs and never lost a frame, you guys really have done a remarkable job with these cameras and media.

Very eager to try the new firmware... Hoping it is truly a fix. Still scared about really not knowing if the issue is fixed or not. Such a troubling issue. Shot 2 days on the camera with no issues but never left a mag in the camera through a power cycle.
