  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FORGED - Shot on RED Weapon 8K

Spectacular!! The detail, the richness, the smoothness, the fucking sword...amazing.

O.K., I'm convinced... where do I send my CF Weapon to get the 8k sensor put in?

it looks pretty great

off course would love the opportunity to have some R3D frames ( especially wide shots ) .. to watch them big ...

also: how do you encode for youtube ? looks very clean ..

thanks
g

Fantastic! If you get around to it, could you make a 5k download available for all of us in the community with 5k monitors?

Wow! Thanks for all that love guys. Means a hell of a lot.

I added some BTS stills and thoughts in Post 2 of the thread:

That shot at 2:50 from down low had me yelling at my monitor. So awesome. All of it. Great job Phil!
Heh. You should have seen me on the floor under that grinder. Not something I'd recommend doing :)

Phil that was outstanding, but those are the roughest looking milk girls I've ever seen. ;-)
Heh. I watched that just before we filmed.

Awesome work Phil! Just watched it in 4k on my samsung curve. Looks amazing in 4k. Did you put any filtration on the lens during the shoot? I noticed in one shot looked like you might of dropped a diff in to protect the lens.

Thanks Jon. No diffusion, but I did use optical clears inside the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom to protect the lens when things got real hairy. Destroyed three filters on this shoot if you're curious :)

Like it, Phil !

Was that on the Otus ?

Case is getting made in my brain for 8k... I keep slipping and calling HD standard definition now that 4k is becoming my production norm.

Thank you Matt! Yep, a good chunk was Zeiss Otus. Some Milvus, vintage Olympus OM and Canon long glass thrown in there too.

The future of UHD, in home, and cinema is all about 4K and 8K content. 8K display will be the top tier format one day, but 4K for now and likely the next 7-10 years will be the golden standard for productions we like to shoot.

DUDE! Proving once again you da man! Seems to me the depth of field is a two edge sword, it's got to be a bitch to pull focus, yet looks like you nailed it.

Heh. I was certainly curious about that. Didn't take long to get used to it though. I judiciously use the In Camera Focus tools while working and was just using the newer LCD 7.0" Touch. Shooting most of this at f/2 was something I was initially worried about, but if you mentally focus it's pretty easy to do a decent job.

Beautiful work Phil! Superb eye candy for sure...wish I wasn't priced out of an 8K upgrade!
BTW, I thought I had everything that Trent/Atticus have released...what album is that soundtrack from?

Gone Girl Soundtrack. Of course, shot on RED. Great film btw. Great soundtrack as well.

Just read the BTS. Thanks for this reduser film school lesson.

I haven't been as active on reduser lately because I don't want to be tempted to upgrade anytime soon. This is not helping, lol. Great stuff!

Absolutely beautiful. I love to watch the process and these artists.
The picture is just fantastic! Phil you are my kind of shooter.

Amazing job Phil ! I'll coin the term: " Cinematic Clarity "

So much detail, so lifelike, yet so cinematic.
With so much definition and last generation digital oriented lenses, one could expect a video-ish look... but the colors, rendition of movement, everything screams cinema !
It really strucked me the same way when i watched "The Martian", so clean and vivid, with such amazing aesthetics.

This is the future , right now.
Phil, i hope you got to keep the sword ;)

So the 8K Weapon is pretty much an IMAX camera that you can also use to shoot TV. ;-) I think that if IMAX features take off, as they should, then RED won't be able to make enough cameras for a while.

Gone Girl Soundtrack. Of course, shot on RED. Great film btw. Great soundtrack as well.
Great story, very good film. I don't like the way it looked, though. I dare say it was visually boring. That is not the best advertisement for the most excellent digital cinema camera known to man.

That was intense. Thanks for posting and providing the BTS! Some of those shots would have had me on a LOOOOOONGGG lens, lol.
