Anyone has any footage of Scarlet with popular DSLR lenses like the Canon 50mm 1.4, Tokina 11-16 2.8, etc?

I'll beable to show samples of the 50mm 1.4 and Tokina 11-16 as soon as I get my camera, which I'd guess wouldn't be to far out considering i'm about 20 away as far as SO allocations go. And the time stamp seems to be on point.

Just shot all day today with the Canon 24mm f/1.4L, 35mm f/1.4L, 50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.2L, 135mm f/2L and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8.
I used the Tokina a whole lot for this particular shooting day.

I'll get some images up and wrangle my thoughts after I look at the material.

Phil, that's almost the full set of lenses I own! Would love to see hear your thoughts and see the results!

Does the Tokina vignette on Scarlet? If so, from what focal length?

Phil

I too would love to hear your thoughts as well. I have a complete set of L primes along with the Tokina 11-16mm.

Thanks!

It doesn't vignette at 4k at all. With a deeper aperture @ 5k you can see it creeping in on the corners @ 11mm.

The Canons did pretty well. Tried to mix up my shooting from f/2-f/16 today. Focusing with the focus assist on the Scarlet is very nice.

Wide open though cinema glass is noticeably better in pretty much every regard. If you find yourself shooting between f/2.8-f/4 on L primes you'll be pleasantly surprised I think. L Zooms usually between f/4-f/8 to make them sing. Both L primes and zooms are usable wide open, but it's not going to be the sharpest image you can produce with each lens under most situations.

I did note that my Sigma 300mm f/2.8 doesn't work with the Scarlet/Al Mount yet. I don't think they profiled it. The camera doesn't understand the lens and it just opens and closes the iris blades really fast and makes a lovely horrible sound. I'll contact Red about that.

I used a whole lot of ND today out in the sun. I'm using the Formatt HMND filters for the time being, but the Schneider Platinum IRNDs are in my future. The Formatt HMND introduce a warmish magenta tint that can be corrected out in post.

I did fashion a shoulder rig "out of thin air" to use today as well. I'll post pictures and images in my "Skully" thread in a bit. I have lots of thoughts on battery consumption too.

More soon. Just eating and looking that the material at the moment. This was really my first "real world" situation day. The camera itself worked flawlessly through the day. So that's good news :)

That's not encouraging. In the first post of the big 'Canon mount' thread, Jarred says: "If your lens is not on the list, it's ok, you still will get rudimentary support, such as IRIS control and Stabilization if the lens has it."

So that's definitely not supposed to happen!

Thanks Phil ! Can't wait the 50mm 1.2 footage... :-)

I would love to see anything with the key zooms. Especially after what Jim wrote about them.

16-35mm F2.8
24-70mm F2.8
70-200mm F2.8

If there is anyone capable of doing a fix comparison I'd be eternally grateful Jim comments have left me concerned. As I do a lot expedition type stuff I can't carry a lot of lenses and zooms we thought to be my savour. I may get one or two primes to use if they are way off.

What did Jim say about them?

Here is a montage I put together of some test shoots I did the first week I had my Scarlet. Everything was shot on the 24-70, 70-200, and Tokina 11-16mm in a variety of resolutions and compression ratios. Hope that helps...

Here are some JPG framegrabs. I wanted to shoot a quick comparison of the lenses I have.

all shot @ 2.8, 4K HD, 1/48th shutter, 800 ISO, RC 8:1. matching frame sizes. I mainly was looking for a sharpness comparison. The Tokina sure is soft at 2.8, looks like white pro-mist. Surprised at how the 70-200 matches up to the Zeiss at 2.8.

1) Zeiss ZE 50 1.4
2) Zeiss ZE 85 1.4
3) Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS II
4) Tokina ATX PRO II 28-70 2.8

off-topic: how do you attach pictures so that they're in the body of the post?
