  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I think in the past few weeks folks have been a bit testy on REDUSER.net (myself included at times).

So, I am opening this thread in the hopes that people will vent their frustrations.

Go ahead! Have at 'er.

If I am, it is only because when entering a year of production, all of a sudden tested stuff bugs...

Untill I remember that the support guy installed some fancy new hardware on my trusted workhorse...

We all have the itch...

But we can't scratch. So little information these days.

We get occasional Epic photos and anecdotes to chum the waters and gather us on Recon; it holds interest for a while, but like junkies, we need our fix. I think many of us miss the old school Red communication lines. At this point, we all understand the strategy change, and why it happened. But its a bitter pill to swallow for some (most), especially given the (justifiable) delays.

At the very least, it would be nice to get an idea of a release date for the first 50 cams; subject to change, it goes without saying, and it WILL change. But at least we can get an idea of how RED is thinking, their level of confidence, what hurdles are left to surmount, and determine where we stand in the world.

That's good Dylan -:)

If I had RLF based ISO, I'd promise to even break my own promise never to adjust curves in camera ever...

really. I want it that much.

And as R1 M & MX are the cams I am currently working with everyday, this (and DRX out of the rocket) are my favourite gripes.

LOL

Really. I am generally quite happy with the way things are shaping up, but these things and a stable RCX release would really take me out of overtime-mode...

Come to think of it... I'm paid by the hour...

Gee... Nevermind...

It's really all just fine... -:)

I want Scarlet footage pronto! Jarred has a great 2/3 8X still on his facebook but no real footage to speak of except for a few clips here or there that don't really tell or show us anything. Red can really set the gears in motion with a 5 min + collection of Scarlet demo footage and do a redreel like edit. They may be working on it but it is time to let the cat out of the bag. As much as I love to hear Jim's thoughts on things, I like tangible footage even more. Let the results speak for themselves. Seems to be a little too much Epic focus. Some Scarlet r3d's could tide the masses over for a couple on months and get people used to working with the footage in post (since most Scarlet customers will have never touched raw 2k+ files before).

I've given up trying to predict when the Epic will be available, so I don't even really bother checking Red User anymore. I just keep shooting with the Red One for general shots, and the 7D's for difficult angles and fast shooting. Just use what I have until it is my turn for the Epic upgrade path.....which I suspect won't be for another 12 months.

I would be happy to see a bomb EVF sometime this month.

However, there is something much more important than that ... A launch of the 1.8" SSD drives. My great hope is that there is not an immediate shortage of drives, and/or readers. That would be a bad sign.

Take time with the Epic/Scarlet line and get them 100% locked down.

The MX sensor, coupled with the 1.8" drives, would be an amazingly powerful pacifier in the meantime.
