  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

They are 95wh from a company called Beillen USA http://www.beillen.tv You have to use a non AB charger, but so far I think they are actually better than the real ABs I have owned. Nice and light, durable, and very cheap :) I am going to buy 4 more soon.

will, thanks for the link but which mount are you using on the back of the scarlet

Edit: are u using the Anton Beur gold mount?

Yes the viewfactor brooks ab gold mount :)

Thanks so much for sharing your r3d's, i really appreciate it :) Even at 2000 iso, the noise and cleanliness (lack of artifacts) in the shadows is just a dream coming from DSLR land. I'm so excited!!!
That sounds like good news. So far what I have seen has not been encouraging: harsh, noisy, video-like images which don't come close to even older DSLRs. If anyone can be bothered, I'd love to see a full resolution still (neutral grading) to compare with other RED output I have seen.

The reason why I care is that I might want to buy a Scarlet-X or two for still photography use.

hmmm, interesting. Have you tried downloading one of the R3D's and playing around with the image?

Better yet, you may want to evaluate the 5k stills which no one uploaded yet.

But even in 2k and 3k, i didn't see noise in the properly shot stuff like in this thread. So what are you really asking?

They look exactly like the global media pro batteries. We got 3 of the 160Wh with a charger for about 1200$

Tried to keep the detail and give it a bit of a "gold-ish" feel, but not over saturated. Quick grade using Redcine X pro beta 1 (don't ask. Can't update!)

2 000 ISO is usually not pushing too far on EFP, DSLR cams. It's totally exploitable on these cams. Too bad it's getting really noisy already at 2 000 ISO : you would get that noise level at 20 000 ISO on a FS100.

I'm impressed. I'm a heavy DSLR user. The key here is the quality of the noise and artifacts. With something like Neat video, this image would look pristine, noiseless and keep incredible detail. With a 2000 ISO 7D picture or 5D, not so much. Specially on the detail part. Think about it.

strange skin tones to me... typical of not wel processed red material. Or maybe was an artistic choice, don't know.

Hey

The r3d's are there for you to download. Why not download? Look at the files. Dial in the skintone you like and post. Or show us some well processed red material.

Obviously there are are many factors. RAW capture, lens, lighting, etc.

But I hope your post comes after viewing the RAW and not just based on all the interpretations.

:)

Thanks David! :) And loved your grade of the mirror shot. Subtle, and beautiful.

if this was footy, I'd probably replace the sky... I bet it looks pretty badass in motion.

EDIT: ...and, yeah, I tend to prefer thicker/saturated skintones, hence this grade.

EDIT2: Do you have any naturally lit stuff? Preferably in-doors. What about 3-5second clips? Sorry if I sound demanding (I don't mean to) but so far, Will, you've been pretty much the only owner who has actually posted a series of Scarlet X-shot .r3ds.

Motion Clip uploading. :)

Playing around with the r3d makes me see some strange things. Pushing the luma curve up and down changes the tonal response and go from magenta to yello/grenn. I presume it was lit with poor CRI like some Led or fluo... Any comments on how it was lit?

Thanks

Patrick

I just finished my first shoot with scarlet #59 here are some R3d grabs, and some jpegs. Would love to see other peoples grades on these, I just did a very fast pass before I put them up. Footage to come soon and some motion R3D files :)

First impression: Scarlet is an incredible cam. At the minimum I would highly suggest adding the sliding top handle, as it is pretty hard to use hand held with no handle. I also picked up one of Brooks AB battery plates, and am loving that! After this first week with the camera, I am almost ready to write a first impressions post with details etc. I will also have some slow motion clips. 2K 60 frames looks awesome!

R3D files: http://www.sendspace.com/file/8e18pu

Thought I would have a quick go (I only did the three 4K images):

P.S. Still trying to get my head around uploading better and bigger images onto Reduser. Any tips?
