  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Pic of Working Fixed Lens Red Scarlet

Also does anybody know if a wide adaptor and extender will be available when the camera ships ?

Yea forgot about the ND filters, I think it will contain two but didn't hear anything about it in the video.

The fixed Scarlet has the option of: OFF, .9ND, and 1.8ND. We literally had 60 seconds with the Scarlet so this is by no means a comprehensive video.

Last we heard RED has no plans for a wide angle adapter but the Scarlets 77mm front will accept 3rd party adapters.

OK. This video absolutely settles it.....

That side handle has to come with Stage 2 EPICS.

Jarred???
Confirm?

Justin your still a lucky lucky man thanks for info re internal ND filters.

All those suckers buying AF101's will be wondering what the hell and why they spent $6000.00 on for a work AF101 hehehe ok couldn't resist.

So what was the range of the 8X zoom? What focal length is it at its widest and narrowest? This must have been posted before but I've forgotten....

The focal lengths are 7.5mm-60mm. That is the S35mm equivalent of 18.5 - 148mm or FF35 Equivalent of 28mm-224mm.

I don't see in the video if you turned the Scarlet on. Did it actually work? I would like to be convinced by the all purpose ring on the lens. I've used camera with such all purpose ring and it allways was a pain to work with... Hope to see a Scarlet soon next year.

Hi RED, is this is applied at the sensor level? negative gain / or negative ISO ??
(guessing)

It seem, it's a wheel like on the standard camcorders. I don't think the developped a sensor with variable sencivity. It's much complicated than adding an optical ND filter and if this kind of thechnology would exist they would have told us and implemented it on the Epic camera.

My "non RED" POV...

that would be awesome:-D u'd think with the side handle stuck on an epic or scarlet in virtually every video and picture they'd throw it in with stage 2 package:-P

I agree that the side handle is incredibly important.. I never take it off. But its obviously way too expensive to give it away for free. Maybe we will re-arange that Stage 2 package to accommodate and drop something else.

I agree Jarred, I would be one of those that would almost never take out, but if I was to choose from the current
Epic package and have to take something out to allow for the Side Handle Grip, probably the first to go would be
the I/O Module, as not eery one would need one any ways.

Agreed. I'm hoping Teradeck come up with something soon by way of a "Cube" module. It'd just rock to be able to operate such a small camera without the need for tethers of any kind, so an I/O module would be low on my list.

I second Ketch's suggestion. The Base I/O seems like the logical sacrifice.

As for the fixed lens Scarlet, I'm eagerly awaiting any more news / announcements... AVAILABILITY. :)

This was the last I heard of the matter...

yes.. you can use tele/wide extenders on the fixed if you choose. It has a standard 77mm threaded ring on the front to allow.

If that still makes you feel restricted, that is why we also offer the Interchangeable lens version of the 2/3rds Scarlet.

I asked "Has RED stepped down for the moment on the old tele/wide extender front for the time being Jarred?"

For the moment yes...

I am currently looking for good 3rd party WA/Doublers.

+1 on that.

Hi Jarred ! The video looks great, and the SSD option is sure to be a winner any news on the various SSD prices for the Fixed Scarlet ?
i.e. how much extra will the SSD option cost and will it include a bundle,

Side Module
SSD Card and the RED 1.8" Red Station Reader.

Also will the Scarlet ship with a 5" or is the 2.8" display still the standard ?
(personally I think the 5" monitor looks great and would be a better monitoring option than the 2.8. After seeing the 5" it just seems to be the minimum size necessary for professional monitoring and use as a touchscreen. I just wonder if the 2.8" will make monitoring and control a bit difficult.
Just my thoughts

Finally aprox. how many minutes of 3K footage at the highest red code you would get on the various ssd's e.g. 64, 128, 256, 512 and how will HDRx affect the recording time ?
Also in another clip Ted mentioned the Red handle/travel battery could power Epic for about 30 mins I take it the Scarlets is about the same ? I think at least two Red (long life) battery's and a dual charger will be needed along with the travel charger.

Thanks
