Everybody around here knows I test the latest ND filter offerings over the years. Important stuff as much of this world has been changing and filters indeed have been increasing in quality and consistency.

Recently I got to spend about a week with the Schneider RHOdium FSND Filters to dig into them.

I've been shooting various footage, in mixed situations, but I did attempt on a gloomy day to whack out a test to see what their full range of 0.3 through 3.0 strengths could do:

In this particular test I utilized Automatic Sensor Calibration and adjusted the shutter to the intensely bright light source (thank you Jennie for putting up with that).

I'd say that performance is pretty darn good and well within a comfortable margin. I have some stuff shot during the day with the 3.0 that also show's their "goodness". Did a bit of filming on Helium and Dragon as well. No noticeable shadow or highlight casts and color seems pretty pure overall.

I'd say these are in the upper echelon of what's currently available. As such, I've added them to my approved ND list.

Lots of good ND options out there. My personal advice. Invest in a quality set of NDs and treat them well. They'll last you a long, long time.

What is general consensus on the BEST
Firecrest?

I have a set of Schneider's but am in need of an update

It's honestly hard to say. I've even tested copies of a few of these to check variations. Somewhere between the Schneider, Tokina, Firecrest, and Lee you will find the answer. There's little variance between many of these at this point. Accuracy on density/stop variation is even damn good. For me, go bonded so they last.

As of June 17 what 4x5.65 ND Filter set is the best choice/future,
Firecrest
or Schneider RHOdium FSND Filters

Has anyone worked with the new Schneider RHOdium FSND Filters in the real world, are they shipping to user folks yet?

I'm interested in colour netural grades before anything else. prior to in camera auto balance, raw or not.

ND's are a front line film optic necessity, as important as the lens, sensor, and image one can be hold to.

Interested to hear modern thoughts and user experience that's united

Are those shots after adjusting white balance/tint? Or straight from Red cine x with no alteration?

White balanced in camera for the lighting setup and didn't touch it from there.

If you were on an island and you had to choose between Tokina Pro and RHOdium to take with you which would you choose?

Whichever I could crack in half and use as a pocket knife to hunt food with :)

Honestly, I need to do a side by side test with multiple types of light sources to know for sure. I'll be doing that shortly.

The reason I have an approved list is mainly to show which filters experience minimal chroma and tonal shift filter to filter.

Roger that lol. Thanks!

Any issues/oddities arise with these over the last couple months? Still on the recommended list?

Thanks for all your work, Phil.

Thanks for all the effort Phil.

Any chance you could test and recommend Polarisers?

Cheers!
