  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Helium 8k footage

Jonny Mass directed it, he's 19. I feel so old, this guy is gonna be huge if he continues at this rate

Is it me or does it looks like the rolling shutter is way better?
Pat

I was thinking the same. But then on other shots I thought i saw motion mount wide open artifacts. (not sure but guessing can also be crystals in front of lens or such) But the shaky shots looked good in a way they normally do not.

Nice, well shot!
I'd like to see skin tones w/o the teal/orange grade though, to compare it to Dragon and Alexa.

To me, it seemed like MX had an orange/pink look on skin tones and Dragon had a slightly red/brown skin tone.
Curious how Helium compares.

pretty cool considering the FB post says it was shot in one day and then finished the next day.

Would love to hear how they edited and graded that... (?) does any of the major apps out there support Helium yet... ? ;-)

or was this done in a special version of RCX ?

Considering jarred gave him his personal helium for a day I'm sure he gave a rcx version along with it

Yep, just looking at web stills, it's amazing. The tonality is great, silk, skin rendering what I hoped for. The dragon had the range but was slightly off compared to this, which I saw, as with BM UM 4.6k. Didn't the dragon land up with a stop less range compared to the original reptile sample photos? This is wgatvIm looking for. I did noticed one still there might be something, or just the web jpeg. Of the boxer closeup on the floor, the canvas. But let's see how it handles bright sunlight and dark city allies?

Now, does anybody know this guy? It would be good to ask him to put up an ungraded version? Then we could see how the sensor handles it raw.

Thanks.

Most of it was certainly shot dark, I would love to know how much noise is in that untouched footage. Not sure if its my monitor but I thought I saw a good amount of noise in the heavy bag. Also didn't seem as sharp as I would have imagined. Probably my screen resolution tapping out. or lost of noise reduction in post. Someones gotta be able to get their hands on a screen grab r3d.

I think it was the opposite. The BTS photo shows a lot of light coming from outside for the daylight shots. And you can see a lot of lights above the boxing ring too. It's better to wait for some less controlled footages & tests to have a better idea of the improvement helium brings.

Has there been anything released with regards to dynamic range improvements? I remember reading something about it but cannot find the post anymore...

The spec listed during the sale was "16.5+ stops", which is the same as Dragon.

Wasn't the dragon meant to be that range but came out 15 stops in production version?

Would love to see the affects of bright hard light and contrast.
