  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First hand with the Movi on the short "The Arborlight"

Domenic, thanks for sharing your actual in-the-field experience.
That is exactly what I like to see here - professional and unbiased.

Thanks Eric, I really wanted to let everyone in on some top secret info. Seems like everything up until now has been mostly fluff and I wanted to make sure i gave a real review. Im hoping that Freefly can take some of this into account now rather than later. This product has so many capabilities. I really want it to succeed in the best way. The guys at Freefly deserve it.

Hey Domenic, thanks for all the great info!

What were you guys using to power the Redrock follow focus on the camera? You mentioned earlier that you powered that with the camera battery, but I would've imagined that a V-lock battery was too heavy to add to the Movi...

All the power was custom lemo cables on the movi rig itself

UPDATE: working with a new bolt to see what the problem was. testing with the micro remote from redrock to see if i can trace where we had a kink.

Hey Roger,

I guess you haven't followed other threads about this. It was explained over and over again what's different about the Paralinx, so I'm not going to repeat it here. With that said I have to point out Dan's service, which is stelar and is unparalleled. Go ahead and do some legwork with the search function and you'll figure it out.
BTW, Nice way to be rude to a very respected member of the industry and this board. Geez...

Thanks Daniel, I'd also like to point out in light of Roger Pinto spamming everyone the kind of messages that he has decided to send me personally so you can see what kind of personality he has:

Regarding the product: The Paralinx Arrow was Launched in June of 2012 and shipped to customers within 21 days of launch. Well before any clones hit the market, obviously.

We offer the Amimon Pro chipset, and were literally the first Vendor to Market with Amimon Pro support and chips.
We offer Dynamic Frequency Selection, other clones that don't have the PRO chipset but use the word PRO do not.
We have additional antennas and additional bands because of Dynamic Frequency Selection.
We have Multi Receiver Ability in the Arrow+, others do not.
We have a Wide Range of Accessories specifically engineered for camera use including an HD-SDI input module - the Crossbow, others do not.
We have our facts straight when compared to some guy who decides to spam the boards and send insulting messages.
We offer world class service and support.

To Roger Pinto - come meet me at NAB this next year and see what a caring, compassionate individual I am, even to individuals such as yourself who have nothing better to do than to attack someone with false and incorrect claims... by SPAMMING the boards, and sending me messages like this:

Re: "Hey Cunt"

Edit: Dan beat me to it!

To be fair, Dan Kanes (Parralinx) outlines in detail what the differences are if you do a search. He basically says the Parralinx is encrypted, goes farther, and does frequency switching, as well as has the ability to transmit to multiple recievers, none of which he claims the Nyrius does. Just sharing the info I have. The nyrius pro does work really great, though only being able to transmit to 1 reciever can be a gotcha in our biz.

Wow Rodger, your email to Dan is so un-pro. Even if you thought you were doing everyone a service, you come off like a 16 year old at 2 am talking to his cheating girlfriend. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me.

Domenic, did you use you Contax lenses on this movie, looks like a Canon Cine Prime in this featurette? Did you use the Teradek Bolt system?

Finally a mature take on things - it's a great tool for some shots but not a Steadicam replacement (which is very fast with a good operator, only takes one op plus focus, and is very easy to use in semi-imporvised or fully improvised situations).

This was shot on Zeiss superspeeds for interiors and Canon CNE and Canon L for exteriors. And Yes we used the Teradek system, which gave us quite a few headaches. They have sent me a new unit to play with to see if it was a fluke on set for the poor performance.

Thanks Robert, Yea in my opinion a steadicam is a much more universal easier tool to use. Where as the only reason to use a movi or steadi is for very specialty shots. While the movi is a really awesome tool, a steadicam is a much more useful one.

Thanks for sharing that. Looked like a special piece of art. Is the shot available to watch online yet?
