We have all seen the hype, 5K resolution. Is that all? Why not in say a future firmware update to where it can shoot in 3D with just a single camera?
It is possible, and here is why. I've been messing around with this software called 3Dcombinde, it turns 2D images and videos into 3D images and videos but in order to pull off the 3D effect, you'll loose a little bit of the original horizontal lines. A still 2D image that was once 1920x1080 is now 1890x1080.
Here is the original 2D image:
Here is the 3D conversion:
Now from what I've seen with the Epic XS35, it can shoot 5K video. Now here is what I've been able to figure out. If you shoot at 4K resolution, and you have an additional 64 horizontal lines to the current 4096x2304 and making it 4160x2304. After shooting you hook it up to the red rocket and you set the camera to 3D capture, there you will have 2 .r3d video files. One for the left eye and one for the right eye both at 4096x2304 or you can go for 2D capture for a centered image for your 2D post production. Now what do you do with you 3D video files, they wheren't obtained using traditional 3D shooting standards but you did shoot in 3D non-the-less so you need to put them throw the proper 3D imaging system. Even though this method was flat, let me tell you about two films that where both shot flat and then converted to 3D and I think you might have seen atleast one of them, I've seen both. One was Alice In Wonderland, the other was Clash of the Titans. Now Alice looked perfect, you would have never have known is was shot in 2D. Titans on the other hand looked in some ways kinda week, the hole image was popping out instead of objects like you would see in standard 3D shooting, I also saw this level perfection on Alice but not on Titans.
It's open for debate, should the Epic XS35 become some 3D camera where you shoot 3D with just one camera or at 4K resolution as mentioned above, just use two red ones instead?
