  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

THIS is the statement that is so sweeping, subjective and pompous that I just can't get past it it. There are thousands of people inside and outside of Apple that I know would argue with you about this. There is no facts to underscore your statement. In fact, Apple has said they DO care about the professional market and that FCP was very important to them. Yopu may think they screwed up, but please don't attribute it to not caring because that is something you DON'T know. It is simply one opinion, stated over and over and louder and louder until those of you who believe it expect others to as well.

I'm humbled by the brilliance of your logic! Oh, no wait, actually it turns out that I'm not.

iMovie import came before EDL support. This is one of a litany of examples where consumer features came before pro features. How is that an absence of facts?

...and iPhone support, Facebook support and YouTube support.

Terry, I agree with you on many things but there's just no way to justify them leaving out basic features like XML/EDL/OMF upon release. Had they included these things - even if it took them months longer - 90% of this angry backlash would have been avoided.

Doesn't mean it's doomed, doesn't mean it's not potentially revolutionary -- it's just that someone at Apple made a serious "boo boo" and now they are feeling the heat.

Let's hope they work day and night to correct these things so that everyone can calm down and focus on what it DOES do ...

I get the feeling that most has been said on the subject for now, and people are getting nasty. Time to leave this thread and go to work

Fight, fight, fight! Just kidding. Terry is a good guy (even if he does think I'm pompous). You're right that there's no reason to take this stuff personally.

After reading a post in which someone expressed feeling like they just went through a break-up, I thought I might write a little something that reflects a lot of what I'm hearing from those of you who are displeased and how that scenario might play out in a real break-up.

Fade in on a couple who've been dating seriously for a while...

APPLE: I've got something to tell you. I'm pretty excited about it but it means some things are going to have to change. I've decided to go back to school. In fact, I've already been accepted at several.

YOU: Wait a minute. What about us and all of our plans? You're not breaking up with me are you?

APPLE: No, but I have been re-evaluating things - my life, my goals and how those things will impact our relationship. Things can't continue on the way they have been. I'm not happy with where I am in life and I feel like I need to make a change, reinvent myself, so to speak.

YOU: This is why you've been distant lately. I thought we were on the same page and wanted the same things.

APPLE: We still can have all the things we talked about. They're just not going to happen as soon as you would've liked.

YOU: How can you spring this on me? I can't believe you didn't you consult me first. Why did you keep it a secret?

APPLE: This is something that I had to do for myself. I knew you would just try to talk me out of it. Besides, I was afraid you'd react exactly like you're acting now.

YOU: I should've known it was going to come to this. Now, I feel like an idiot for staying with you for so long. Adobe was practically throwing herself at me at NAB. But NOOOoooo, I resisted because I thought we had something special. We decided we were going to focus on MY career and...

APPLE: No, you decided. Can't you see this will help BOTH of us in the long run? You have a right to be upset but you have to realize that everything can't always revolve around just what you want.

YOU: You know what, screw you, bitch. If you can't give me what I want right now then I'm outta here. I think I still have that cocktail napkin with Adobe's number on it.

Fade to black.

LOL. Exercising your screenwriting skills. Nice ...

APPLE: I've found someone who has more money than you, and I'm going to spend some time with them before I spend any more time with you.

YOU: (sobbing) But you still love me too, right?

APPLE: Sure baby... just stick around by the phone. I'll call you when I've got EDL working.

Oh wait, I messed up that last part...

Agreed. Until Apple makes either a official statement or a software update, all we have is bitching and speculation. And I think we've all reached our fill of both ....

Wait! but what about XM...uh, oh ok, yeah, I'm done now. :rolleyes5:

Liam, virtually all your posts are kinda angry and stern sounding, along with just a wee bit condescending. Read them. Nothing personal, but read them, you'll see.

Nothing angry here. Not remotely, I couldn't be happier. It must be a combination of the way I write and the way you read:)

I bitched about it... now I'm playing around with it trying to learn it for the future. I have no idea what apple is planning to do with it... but it's kinda cool doing stuff like secondary color grading in it. I'm hoping that they'll add video capture card support for it soon.

24 hours later, I took a step back and this is the saddest part of the whole thing to me:

Shake (nothing real)- DEAD
DVD Studio Pro (Spruce's DVD Maestro)- DEAD
Final Cut Server (Proximity's Artbox)- DEAD
Color (Silicon Imaging's Final Touch)- DEAD
Final Cut Pro (Macromedia's Key Grip)- DEAD
Cinema Tools- DEAD

Man, that's a long road of death and destruction for one company, and what do we have to show for it? These were awesome tools, developed by people who really believed in them (we beta tested Final Touch and used to talk with their guys frequently). What kind of legacy is that? It's a shameless waste of intellectual property and potential.

I say Adobe needs to give FCP users a %50 discount off their production premium bundle and make it attractive for them to switch. Even if it's for a very limited time. (I am posting a thread in the Adobe forum section)

Interesting times and a real cheese mover.

Interesting times and a real cheese mover.

Luckily for me I am not a full time pro editor ( much like many people here Im guessing) Im a DP and the camera is my tool of trade but I do work with an inhouse editor. Our jaws did drop at the lack of fully pro functioning features and were a little dissapointed that we could not get fully stuck in with current projects on FCX. But its not the end of the world for us. We still have FC7 and in the meantime Im going to dabble with FCX and my Editor is pretty excited about getting stuck into to a new programe that can only get better and in the meantime we loose nothing. Its not 100% today but luckily I was born with patience plenty of it... Ive been waiting for an Epic for how long? I think this link could help more than a few people at times like this I Love my Final Cut 7 but I can deal with it

I actually feel a little bad for Apple.. They are taking one hell of a beating over this. (Here comes some speculation). I wonder if they knew this was going to happen. It seems obvious to us, but do you think they honestly thought those features were just not that important, or that we would be happy to wait for them?

My guess (Yes I am guess.. It's fun!) is that they knew those features were wanted, but failed to take into account the intensity of the critisim they would get for leaving stuff out and not giving any type of explaination for it.

It will be interesting to see how they choose to handle the response to this.

(If they don't respond... Well that will say a lot too!)

Jay
