  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

Its odd that they tout Color on their own website then dump it a year later.... Apple make amazing products but every once in a while they contradict their own philosophy. Why would they just dump Color and dump some big 'pro' features-XML for example? They should continue with iMovie as the consumer product.

I think the new FCP X is well in line with Apple's philosophy. Concentrate on aesthetic/looks (most important!), marketing and saleability rather than performance and flexibility. The only thing missing is the price.

I think people also have to realize that it is $299. Premiere Pro, Avid MC, Vegas Pro are playing in a different market. Yes, it is not the most well-featured, but it is excellent value for money.

I have been working with Premiere for several months now. It provides: Instant Import of rd3 files. Instant Playback of rd3 files. The ability to adjust raw files within Premiere in real time. Realtime Color Correction. (nVidia Card Required) Complete linking to After Effects and Audition for advanced finishing.

Once you learn the interface, the editorial process is the same as any other professional app. There are bins, a timeline, and record modes just like all the other Pro editors. It's just that some of the functionality is in different geographical places and that's not a big deal. This package provides everything you need and more.

It's interesting that they would support the export of ProRes4444 content without really supporting cameras that can take advantage of such codecs to begin with. To have removed XML support says a lot. This is like the MobileMe of the pro apps.... hopefully Jobs will get his panties in a bunch sooner than later.

Agreed; Mercury playback engine is truly impressive, and everything missing in FCPX is there in Premiere, plus easy integration with AE. Seems like the obvious choice now that Apple has shown its hand. And the CS6 release is allegedly less than a year away... I wouldn't hold my breath on the next FCP release given how long this one took.

Apple claims the new FCPX platform is geared for the next 10 years, and omits 3D...

3D is officially dead!

Store won't let me download? Should I take it personal? :-) Anyone having problems?

how come adobe did RED support and FCPX doesnt have it? I swear they even did a video for the last time when they brought Pro RES 4444 out that they were all in for RED and excited...right?

Let's hope Apple is in talks with Red about Final Cut Pro X. If not, I'll always have Premiere CS5.5 to learn. Word to Apple, don't screw with the Mac Pro!

I think there are a lot of great tools out there that are more efficient for short format profesional projects such as music videos and commercials, where a lot of the finishing is done in AE and other motion graphics platforms. I, however, primarily work in features, and taking away tape output, xml, audio outputs, dpx, etc. eliminates everything that I do for a long form project deliverables, including creating outputs for high end post houses to color correct and audio mix.

That was before they turned into a phone company...

CS5+ is great for working long form. Throw 24GB and an 8 core at it and you can create complex timelines of 90 minutes without it slowing down at all. This is from someone who suffered editing long form on CS2 and up. No, CS5+ is a completely different beast.

We've had CS 1-5 Master Collection for years now (6 seats), to date were still Avid first, FCP second and while I have to do something quick PPro last.
Everyone has a different workflow and budget.
If you bought the Master or Production CS bundle then you have PPro no need tinker with FCP.
In the end were all winners cause we have options.
I remember when all I had (budget wise) was media100 or Premiere 1-4 :P

ha, true,

I guess REV A was meant to be a taster for people to get their feet wet? Perhaps when Lion drops there will be a major update with codecs etc.?

...the camera list seems to not contain pro cameras? or am I blind?

hmm just started FCPX, hmm.. I'm sure have to get around the first look.

Start up screen.. what the F***CK "import iMovie events"...hahahahahaha

Feature I always dreamed of and client will be very happy with... share on facebook...hahhahaa

I am sorry I am done laughing now (hehehe) ...
I know that there is more than meets the eye!
