  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X is being used on Conan

So funny

So funny

And sad at the same time... But this is reality...

I don't see much posts about hardware.
But to me the issue is:
Should we move to a powerful HP, Dell, Boxxtech or even custom PCs running Linux and Windows 7?

This is relevant because I have the feeling Apple's next move is to remove Pro functions in upcoming OS X releases.
At some points our beautiful 12 core MacPros will become totally obsolete and unusable... I think this will happen sooner than expected.

We can see it in Apple's move not to support CUDA for example.

Currently, people running Premiere and After Effects on W7 beneficiate from a much higher computing speed.: This is a reality.

But then it really means big $$$ for all of us. Switching from brand new 12 cores MAcs to 12 Cores PCs will involve so much money that only the healthiest of the video and audio professionals will do it right now.
I certainly cannot imagine this kind of investment for my small business structure.

What are your opinions….

Hilarious!!!

The list at the end of the features that are now missing is staggering! How could they remove some of that stuff?! You can't have more than one timeline for a project?? jeez...

ok. no copy and past clip attributes. I seriously just don't understand what they are doing. I understand this is their "learning curve" period and they'll be adding more features down the line. especially the high end pro features. fine, ok, I'm learning to accept that. but that is literally one of the simplest most used features known to man for any editor. It's not even that "pro" it's a common thing we expect from ANY NLE worth our time. It just boggles the mind, and the rest of the features missing just makes this feel like such a pointless launch. I know this is like the 500th thread with people bitching about it, but that just goes to show what a POS this new release really is. Days in and we are still complaining.

I am going to bow out of this discussion as gracefully as I can manage, but maybe I can offer one helpful hint on the way out. From my experience so far, I think you can save any set of attributes as a preset and then access it all the time to apply to other clips. Isn't this also the way it's done in REDCine-X? And, if the issue is matching color, you always have the automatic color match feature to try - seems to work pretty well. Best of luck.

no one knows what Apple has in mind. All we know is that they are used to telling everyone how the future should be and what direction it needs to go and usually everyone bows down and praises them without questions (you should have seen the fanatism at the NAB super meet)....it's nice to see people react and demand that Apple give them the tool they need for a change...hopefully Apple will listen and will go back to it's root of supporting the pro creative field.
Could this be the end of a Kool Aid drinking era finally? ;)

Actually that's the way Color does it, and Resolve and Motion and RedCineX and a long list of others.

That falls in the category of highly anticipated feature.

As a colorist, I find my favorite clip in a sequence that's closest to the look I want, and grade that carefully. Then I work to match the other clips to that.

FCP X allows me to do the first part as always ... and then automates the second part, which saves me a TON of time.

Now, if only I had a better UI for doing that first part. You know one more like whats in Color or FCP 6.

Just like desktop publishing in the 90s.
Just like DPs in the last decade.
Rates come down as tools loose exclusivity. But talent still rises to the top and price at a premium.

Well, just like DTP in the 90's versus the 2010's, DP rates are bouncing back up.

People have learned that not every clown with a camera is a DP, just like not everyone with Photoshop and Illustrator is a graphic artist.

The irony is that there is no way this video could have been cut on FCPX because they would have had to lay the piece off to an HDCAM tape for broadcast.

That is not true at all.

I can cut something on FCP X, and render to a .mov file.

Then I can play that out via Black Magic Media Express (or the AJA equivalent ... or FCP 6/7!) to a tape system.

It's an extra step ... but that doesn't make it impossible!

The actual irony is that the sort of errors you see in the FCP X send up are not at all representative in my mind of how FCP X limits an editor today. In fact, I'd argue that its better at preventing the comedic errors in that clip than almost anything before it.

Still funny as hell though!

Probably right, not quite representative of what is wrong with FCPX but very funny indeed!

Just like with shake! Oh wait...

Thought I would share this.. might give you all a good laugh to apple's response...

"Complaint: No support for RED digital cameras. The RED camera is a favorite of filmmakers; it records incredibly high-resolution video directly to a hard drive. But FCP X can’t import its files.

Answer: Apple is working with RED to create a plug-in that will give native RED support to FCP X. In the meantime, you can set your RED camera to shoot and capture video in the QuickTime format, which FCP X imports just fine. Or you can use RED’s free conversion program, which converts its own files into the Apple ProRes format, which FCP X loves because it’s so much faster and easier to edit than the native RED files."

That was stated in the NY Times..
