  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FilmConvert - Film Stock Emulation for Red Cameras

Nigel,

Since DaVinci is not currently set-up for plugins, it has other features that somehow, you can verify if the filmconverter can be optimized to integrate it. The color profile can be either a "Node" that is incerted to all clips, or being brought as an input LUT. Then, the grain profile can be part of a track that can be set as "composite", so it will be part of all clips too.

This idea can allow us to continue to work with our beloved R3Ds, while benefit of the great way your software handles the stock profiles.

Just a thought...

I just bought this wonderful piece of software

Plugin for Davinci! Let's have it. And cheaper! It costs almost half of Resolve itself.

Nigel,

Couple of things.

Is there any price discount for Monkey Extract customers?
Will be great if we can use this great peiece of software(tested demo and looks brilliant) in REDCineX Pro?
Davinci Resolve will be great addition & After Effects as well?
Also conisder exported EXR or DPX to be as input format?

Any update on the inclusion of capability for Canon acquired footage?

Hi gbalaji,

We'd love to get it working as a plugin, the formats you mention are the most popular requests we have. Unfortunately neither program has a plugin format at this time.

We might look into a discount for ME customers, but haven't decided on anything at this stage.

Nigel,

Canon footage is not my favorite at all, but lately it has been too frequent, so is helping to pay the bills :-). I convert it to log via LUT, then proceed with the grading. So, any urgency is the result of such fact. So, keep working on it...!!!

Re: DaVinci, I outiled an idea few postings ago that may or man not be possible, but I think that due to its demand, it is worth to explore it (node for color profile and composite track for grain structure).

Cheers!

one question :
i noticed that film convert now can export also a Log image that have the film matrix Right (without the print ) right?

which i believe is a 3D lot that convert let's say RED CAMERA RGB to a Film Matrix emulation ,
are you planning to feel this Lut (maybe for almost the same about of the software )

i tried your software but is very very slow to render (no Red Rocket ) ,
but i would be very interested on the LUT that convert the Red Colro Space to a "Film scanned like" colorspace ...

thanks

not sure what you meant by 'feel this LUT' - i think you mean release it separately? if so, then not at this stage.

red rocket support is in the works, I will keep you posted when it is available.

Are there any other sample clips other than the one on the filmconvert web site and vimeo?

Nigel,

I assume there's no reason one could run this software at the end of the post-chain, after grading? Or is the idea that the color/contrast will change so much you'd want to grade afterwards? In that case it might be nice if there was a 'grain only' version as to maintain previously established contrast/color.. BTW, without seeing it on a large screen, the samples are very impressive, they remind me of the look we were getting with the Nucoda Film Master grain profiles..
