Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a great Tripod for the Red? I have been recommended a 2060 O'Connor package which is around $10,000 and more than I wish to spend. I will not be using any huge heavy zoom lenses etc. So around 30 pounds at heaviest it will need to hold.

Or if anybody knows someone selling a second hand one I am open to that.

Also on the Matte box front. I am looking at spending around $3,000 if anybody can make a great recommendation.

I am based in the UK so second hand items would need to be on this side of the pond.

Thanks.

The Cartoni Gamma holds 35 lbs and is a workhorse. I've had mine for about 10 years and it still works like new and handles my RED just fine. Others like the Miller Arrow 55. For 3 grand you can get a nice Chrosziel matte box set up.

I use a Miller Arrow 40 head on Miller Solo VJ legs, and it works great as a light weight set up. Some others prefer the Arrow 55 head for heavier applications, but my max weight for my RED is around 28 lbs so I don't need the extra capacity of the 55.

Thanks.

Seems like you have a wider choice in the USA. But perhaps I am just not looking in the right places in the UK.

Also any recommendations for external Firewire 800 or eSATA drive with RAID? I have got a Mac pro Core 8 if that makes any difference.

Thanks again.

I'm a proud owner of a Cartoni Gamma, but I would consider it to be really the bare minimum for a RED set up. Of course, I find that works well, and for bigger jobs we hire a 2060 and Ronford Baker Legs. The Gamma is also quick to set up and fairly light weight itself, which can come in very handy. If you can afford it, the next model up (Delta) might give you bit more load capacity which could come in handy.

Thanks.

You're looking in the wrong place. Everything mentioned in this thread is widely available in the UK. I'd write the URLs, but I'm not sure we're allowed to that, anyway very easy to find.

I am sure you wont get you wont get sent to the headmasters office if you put up the urls :-) would be much appreciated.

Hi Ben,

We sell a lot of gear to clients in the UK. Sometimes hidden in exchange rates and shipping charges can be actual savings. We have lots of options for matteboxes, tripods and everything else you might need to make a proper kit. Feel free to contact me and I can give you some suggestions as well as have someone send you a quote.

Hi Ben,

Chrosziel offers a few matteboxes within your price range. You do not specify the lenses you are using, so, it's difficult to recommend a specific unit.

However, I would like you to consider the new Chrosziel Mattebox 456 Academy. It covers lenses up to 14mm WITH 3-Rotating Stages. And, this mattebox is well under $3,000.
