  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm really, really sorry about saying this, but what does this have do to with Scarlet or RED or anything else that should be in a professional digital cinematography forum?

I think we need more moderators... This forum is reaching a certain "critical mass" which is becoming way too large for the current number of moderators.

If anywhere, this thread should have gone in the Off Topic section.

I've been following this forum for more than three years, and it's always been neat, orderly and organized. However, with all the posts like these, that sense of organization is starting to disappear. At least, that's what I'm seeing in the Scarlet section.

A lot of professionals and students come here to get advice and help on RED-related subjects. If we keep seeing posts like this, imagine the number of threads we'd have to dig through to actually find some useful information.

Am I overreacting, or does a post like this honestly belong on Twitter or Facebook or somewhere else...?

More moderators isn't always the solution.
If a post bothers you, feel free to use the 'report post' button at the bottom of each post and it will alert the mods of a potential issue.
That's why it's there.

The odds of a moderator seeing your post reacting to a thread as just as good as them seeing the thread in the first place.
And in the end, it creates more noise on the site overall (as does my own post).

That said - this post didn't bother me... but to each his own.

It's not that the post bothered me, it's just that I don't think it belongs in a forum like this, let alone this section. The post is a link to an entertaining YouTube video. I just don't see how that fits in with Scarlet or RED.

I suppose I'm just overreacting.
 
Brian, totally agree with you. I like SCALET forum to have SCARLET stuff. The search function is getting harder to use because of the massive amount of information coming to the SCARLET section of REDuser

That said, I don't mind a little fun on an internet forum. If it were all serious all the time it would be no fun at all. I come here for the information and knowledge, but I stay for the community that gets formed here and the people I meet.
 
I don't know that it's any less relevant than The List or the reports that new threads started because someone received their side handle. Those seem like noise to me as well. So I guess I'm agreeing, after a fashion.
 
Dude, chill a little. Why are people so uptight,where is the Christmas spirit? Take it as you like but this is actual news footage and not a hoax which can be of concerned when expecting up to $20K of delivery and quite relevant to us all. Maybe some of the discussions aren't as "Professional" as you would like, but in the interim of waiting for our Scarlets we need to relax a little. Once we all acquire delivery of our Scarlets, rest assured discussions will jump on many levels, maybe you should come back then if a little bold red writing offends you. I have produced hundreds of Commercials, one feature film and I have a lot to teach and also a lot to learn. A sense of humour doesn't make you less professional. Please relax.

But I'd attribute the minimal content in the Scarlet-X forum to something else - there isn't content to be had. The cameras aren't on the ground in sufficient numbers to really support a stream of good data. Give it a month or two.

And you're right. A sense of humor will help you more as a professional more than one would expect.

And Joel, I am a fun person too. However, a lot of the people who come to this forum are professionals who do cinematography as a living. They make money doing what they do, and they come here for recommendations and advice. While I like seeing fun posts sometimes, I'm not sure this is the best forum to entertain people with.

Personally, I found this post hilarious...and since we are all waiting on deliveries from FedEx...it is pretty relevant (lol)

Scarlet is an inanimate object. Inanimate objects don't do things like this. At least they shouldn't... =)

By the way, while I've only been posting here for less than three months, I've been reading the forum for more than three years. I was 14 years old the first time I visited this website... Now that I say it out loud, I feel like an old person. lol :)
