Ok... I may be totally unaware of this feature, and if so... please hook a brother up with some info. I am the king of stupid questions.

As far as I can tell, there's only a button that allows us to snap A.D.D. shots. The button, once pressed starts the process of converting to the .tiff file, however... Randomly, for some reason, it also disables the playhead controls from the keyboard. In order to re-enable the keyboard arrows to cycle through the r3d files frame by frame, you have to re-click on the timeline of the file which moves the playhead from it's current position.

All well and good, however...

I do ALOT of composite photographs for work, visually showing the dynamic motion of our robots for conference posters/presentations etc... So... I generate image sequences, then photoshop the shit out of them (pardon my lack of french)...

It would be super nice to never have to touch my mouse during this process.. just use the arrow keys to find a frame, snap the frame with something like (command /), hit the arrow keys to advance a few frames, snap (with command /), continue...

As it stands right now, it's a wrestling match between passing off control of the software between the mouse and keyboard.

Is this functionality built into RedCine X already?

you can do what you described with the following shortcuts.

However, you might want to lower the resolution to 1/8 to increase the speed of your frame search within the .r3d file, Unless your computer can handle "full" resolution frame searches. Once you find the frame you want, change the resolution back to "full" and snap that frame.

Your can also change what format your "snapshot" actually is ex..(.tiff, .jpeg, .dpx)

Thanks Rand.

My machine is pretty good, and our network is optimized to handle these files.. But... I do have one question... RedCineX won't generate a full res tiff while viewing at 1/4 res?

It seems to me that the default should be to always generate a full res frame no matter what settings you're viewing it at.. It kind of defeats the purpose of generating a 115 mb tiff (A.D.D.) if it's only 1/4 res to begin with.

Feature request #2... please make the default exported file full res always no matter what viewing settings we're using to scrub through the video.

William,

I tried a few tests with resolutions at 1/8 and 1/16 and as long as I selected "full" quality in preferences, it "looked" full res to me. You may want to try a few snapshots and test it yourself to verify this.

Rand,

Thanks man. I did the same as well yesterday, and thankfully RED sets that as the default setting. I've been working in full res tif's the whole time.. whew...

I got a little sick to my stomach thinking about the possibility of me accidentally working in 1/4 res for the last year.. I'm a set it and forget it kind of fellow..

Thank you RED for heading my mistakes off at the pass... Now... Please give us an A.D.D. keyboard command and I'll be happy as a clam.. (in all actuality.. i already am.. although, having a button to make my life even that much easier would be nice)...

William,

You're welcome. I kinda thought that "full" was the default setting but I mess around with settings so much that I could'nt be sure.
