Hi,

So I'm having a difficult time trying to go from my edit in Pro Res back to the original R3D files so that I can start color grading in Resolve 15.

If I do a simple XLM export and then import into Resolve 15, it comes all jumbled up...I have been able to re-link a few of the ProRes files to the original R3D files in FCPX, but the majority does not accept re-linking, keeps on saying that the files do not match... very strange, because some link and some dont.

This is a headache...any pointers would be greatly appreaceated.

I'm on the most recent FCP X version as well as the most recent Resolve version.

Thanks

Antonio

Who made the Prores files? And are you absolutely sure that the all of the filenames match the R3D files?

There is no great magic to relinking. If the file names (or in the case of Avid, the tape names) match and the time code matches, they will relink. If they don't, they won't. It's really as simple as that.

I made the ProRes in Redcine...and redline put _001 after the name of the files...could that be the problem?

I have re-linked using Da Vinci Resolve...and re-imported into FCPX... But what a work around...all day today linking each file

The easier way to do the relink is to use a control string to take the reel name from the file name, dropping the _001. Control strings for the reel name extraction are explained in the manual. Of course, the easier way to avoid the problem is to use a file renamer on the Redcine generated files prior to importing them into FXPX. Anytime you design a workflow, you need to vet it by working from back to front. In other words, if you know that file names are going to be used for the relink, you need to make sure those match the original files before you start cutting by whatever means is necessary. Let that be your lesson for future projects....
