  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Billing advice:
Don't let clients use you as their bank, unless you charge for it.

I typically bill in thirds or halves, depending on the project and customer. If it is a very good client, I might not pre-bill, but that is based upon prior experience.

One more tidbit, if you are ever approached by someone running for political office, the payment must be 100% up front, before production begins.

We are a very small company... we are spending our money right now on development. In case you haven't noticed, we sell the best camera in the smallest package for the least amount of money. We give our "show" money to our customers.

The "normal" proxy module is coming after the Meizler remember... Hopefully before my birthday. Before everyone keeps freaking the fuck out, please remember that we still are a small company and can only make so many things at the same time...

Disk space still costs money and in this cast even with several Red Rockets, time. I suggest to most to review dailies and edit in raw whenever it's possible.

Classic. Edit with RAW camera files to save space. Much smaller than say, DNxHD36.

I'd just like to say on behalf of all of us who aren't using RED cameras but are using Digital Cinema Cameras from other manufacturers, a big THANK YOU to the team at RED, without your vision and determination we simply wouldn't have all the fantastic choices we have now. You changed the industry in ways that no-one could have imagined after your first NAB.

I'm looking forward to where you take the industry next

I think it is good to have conflict between companies. For a company like RED, it galvanizes the whole organization to come together to defend itself against an interloper, and for a company as large as SONY, it kick starts their camera division to work harder to overcome the defensive attack initiated by RED. A conflict-free world will be a world of robots. As for companies shying away from pushing the envelope, well, they will be eaten up by someone who will, if they are viable as a company. Co-operation has its place, but so, at times does being bold.
