  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Realistic Hope?

Hmm...
It's a pitty that I went for Arri.
If RED would really release in the middle of this year, it would be great for sure.
We have need for further cams :)

But it seems that the market is already rolling. There is this German development
of a brand new cinematic camera. Unfortunatelly, it is only in German language,
but Google may help a little:

That's great and all, but it's 29K Euros.

Admittedly cheaper than an Arri Alexa and others, but still over my budget.

I guess it will compete with the Epics and what not.

The reason this is great news is because it means that their production lines will be pushing out, by my very rough guesstimate, about 300-500 cameras per month....the ability to manufacture on that scale is a huge success for RED and fantastic news for all of us. We are all in the waiting game together, unless your last name is Pederson or Gibby...

I have had $5K banked with RED since 5/6/10, and if by some chance, they can deliver me an EPIC within a year of my deposit, the wait will have been NOTHING, for what I will be receiving.

And I have a major, major project on the line, too, a feature film slated from May 23-June 28, which represents my largest financial and psychological investment in any single film, ever.

If I have to shoot it on an MXed RED ONE, do you think for one minute, that I'll be bummed, if I don't have my EPIC in hand? Not a bit...if it's good enough for Fincher....

The minute EPICs ship en masse, RED ONE prices will come in - there will be plenty of RED ONE action for everyone at easy price points.

RED is working a miracle, and that miracle is taking time. The heavy lifting is nearing completion. We should be dancing in the streets.

I'll dance when a Scarlet is available for around $6k and it shoots 3k. Until then things are "subject to change".

What's your feature film about?

End of summer.

Jim

Ahhh that's a good news / bad news thing.

Good news: we have a slightly firmer idea when... thanks Jim!

Bad news: I had tentatively planned a project for 9/11 anniversary :-(

Mike

End of summer.

Recap.

EPIC and Scarlet are coming.

EPIC-Xs ship in reasonable quantities before NAB 2011.
Scarlet 8X and interchangeable soon after.
Deliveries of EPIC-X to all existing customers by summer 2011.

Big surprise at NAB 2011.

Happy customers- priceless.

Jim

NAB is April so does this mean things have changed a little? So chances are before the end of Summer?

David,

your first quote is answering a specific question and the second quote is from today's general update.

They aren't talking about the same thing.

Plus, can I take it that you are of the opinion that "end of summer" isn't "soon after April"?

Because that is subjective and relative.

(Today's update is about release schedule. First quote is answering the question when someone who isn't already invested in RED, and doesn't stand in line, might get one).

I have a question. I am on the same level as the person who posted the original post, but how do I become one of the people "in line"? I'd like to be able to put a deposit down on a scarlet as soon as possible, is there a way I can do that? It may have already been answered in this thread but if someone can tell me that would be great.

Thanks.

Short answer... no.

There has been no indication of what the process will be to "get in line" for the Scarlet. We are all just waiting for some sort of announcement from RED. We all hope to know more around NAB.
