  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Favorite Coffee Machine?

Now translate that into:

The RED is a smart machine but I never liked the idea of only having one camera supplier.

More accurately:

The RED is a smart machine but I never liked the idea of only having one lens supplier.

Which is not the case with RED. Nespresso machine require the matching "pods" which both carry a premium over the same coffee in bulk bags and also lock you out of any coffees not available in Nespresso form.

Not to mention that they're only available at select locations, right? I'm not a pod-cafe enthusiast by any stretch, but what really turned me off was the notion of having to order online or hit up a very specific store (even in NYC!) to get refills...sometimes you have to make due with a trip to the corner bodega (cafe bustelo ain't the best, but it'll get you through a few otherwise hectic days)...

The Keurig coffee machines have a filter basket that you can use in place of pods. Is there no such option for the Nespresso?

Possibly, the last one I saw has this puncture mechanism built into the pod holder which would seem to interfere with that.

Had a Cuisinart Grind & Brew... loved the coffee, but absolutely hated cleaning the thing, which was a daily necessity. Now hooked on the Keurig machines using the K-Cups.
My wife has it all dialed in with Amazon so a big box of K-Cups shows up every three weeks..

Makes a perfect cup every time.

I don't know Noah, they're pretty popular. I'm just a little snobbish about it, and we're trying to be greener too. I shudder to think about the amount of rubbish those things are creating.

So we ended up getting a Nespresso Latissima. It actually took me a bit longer to figure out than the RED One.

Controls are much simpler but a bit less intuitive especially as there's no on board monitor or rear panel display. Startup time rocks- less than 90 seconds from a cold boot to cup of coffee. The pod capsule media is a bit pricey but cheaper in the long run compared to say Starbucks. I hear rumors that Canon is working on a much cheaper version that does much the same as the Latissima but I'll believe that when I see it. Until then, stop by for a cup.

From what I hear, the Canon espresso models use 1/3 the coffee and just raise the water pressure by 3 times to get the same throughput. Apparently it's meant to taste the same but I doubt it.
