RED Problem Solver
The punchline is I get to drink the espresso....
Sorry for the lack of plot, it was an early 2k high fps test that I did.

Actually they don't really brew or percolate as such this is like espresso. And its not boiling water – its past boiled – its steam!
For those that don't know how they work the water sits in the bottom near the flame and the coffee sits in the middle. The water boils till its steam and gets forced up thru the compressed coffee and collects in the top. Its the closest thing to espresso from an espresso machine that I've found.
You have to watch them though, as soon as the water at the bottom runs out you must turn off the flame or the coffee at the top starts to boil and gets bitter. You'll notice I've forgotten a bunch of times as my handle is a bit melted!
Its a ritual thing. If you want it all auto then don't go with one of these.
Think manual lens vs AF if ya get my drift.
edit:
@Tom - I read that u r on the road soon and these are great for traveling as there is no electricity, just need gas cooker
Yes I have used these before when I lived in Spain and other parts of Europe.
What I really want is some kind of simple latte/espresso machine for making cafe lattes. I love to order those from places like Starbucks, but it is too expensive and I would like to be able to make them myself when I am in remote places.

After forgetting to bring the coffee pot, on one leg of an arctic filming trip, I found that a nice cup of coffee can be made with a sock.
I recommend these: http://www.rei.com/product/627663
And since it's REI, you can return it if it doesn't work well as a coffee filter![]()
It saddened me when, in your fine country recently for NAB, I went to Fry's (home of all things consumer electronic) and found precisely 3 espresso machines, all of which were very sub-par.

Hehe. Vegas and Frys. You might as well have gone to Topeka Kansas and McDonalds.
The Nespresso is a smart machine but I never liked the idea of only having one coffee supplier.
