I don't know if its of interest to anyone but I discovered that my Grandmother on my fathers side was the first female projectionist in London and possibly in the UK.
We found an article written about her in the Islington Gazette in 1959.

Anyone else have a family history in the industry?

I was a projectionist, always loved the job. The best part was when a fresh print comes in...that smell... And welding the reels to one, while putting pulse strips into it..creating the show. I worked mainly on Kino FP30's.
A magical job, now fading away, digital is just pushing a botton.

Very cool story, makes you feel like you're down the right path, doesn't it?

My ancestors were the Scottish Stevensons, one of which was Robert Louis Stevenson, but other members of his family were prestigious Light House builders. Two of the Stevenson brothers in Robert's family worked with the Fresnel brothers in France in the late 1800's to develop the fresnel lens. The technology was first applied to light houses and then movie studio lighting soon after!

As funny as it sounds it really did make a click in my head..

Considering my father is a BioChemical Engineer I guess the movie genes skipped a generation.

Thats a fantastic story about your ancestors! My girlfriend studied Robert Louis Stevenson in college for a number of years.
