  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

falling Bricks...!

Secure the battery to the cradle with a footlong piece of black gaffe tape. Fold the ends so they are easy to peel back during battery changes. Sounds stupid, but it eliminates accidental shutdowns, and obviously the battery never falls off completely.

A wide rubber band cut from an old tire but these things are very irritating since they were not suppose to happen like that.

Yup. Just got one back from a rental with a sticker that said: "Broken - dropped". The battery is completely dead

Same..what did you do with it ? I got mine with the surface crack but not sure what is happening with the internal elements. I think it's as good as dead.

Mine didn't crack at all. I can't even see any marks on it. I tried opening it but there's no visual damage to the boards or battery-elements. I will take it apart further to investigate one of these days. I'm interested in finding out if there's a particular soft spot in the batteries.

According to RED sales dept. they revamped their plate design a couple months ago to avoid restart issues and poor contacts. Does anyone have a plate they purchased recently?

They won't sell the cradle or quickplate without the battery plate, so I'm hoping they have improved the quality so my new accessories won't have excess spares that I prefer to not pay for.

my 2 Redplates are 7days old and had this problem :-(

ok: Switronix V-type RED Battery Mount Plate
but its the same or not?!
can i get only the button and mount it to my redplate ;-)

its time for a new "r"evolution jim!:emote_couch:

I use camera tape for attaching my batteries. But i heard of someone using a clothes peg to stop the button being pressed in.

And i've had one battery completely go down on me and yes it was dropped - on tarmac and down a light of stairs. Managed to resolder one of the loose wires back together and it works but no data or LEDs so its a guessing battery.

Andi.

Our GP-SRED has a differently designed release mechanism then the RED mount plate. You will not be able remove the button or modify it to retrofit the RED plate. As for functionality, it is a direct replacement for the RED plate, but we haven't had complaints of falling batteries.

I'll post a picture of the solution Keslow built for us on Southland.

In short, pull the plastic "button" off of the release, drill and tap a hole and add a small tie-down screw. The button can't be pressed which means the battery can't be released without the plastic bending.

Remember that there are metal V-mount alternatives out there... such as IDX's plates.

plz, post a pic so jim get inspirt =)

RED did a lot of awesome things in designing the RED ONE, but their battery plate is not at the top of that list. Its tolerances are a little loose and the plastic tends to bend under force. Don't judge Keslow Cameras by this picture - it was something we asked for in the morning and had by lunch. Elegant or not, it works perfectly in holding the batteries on.

As for RED taking advice from the picture... don't! Check out IDX's plates for inspiration. Metal, tight tolerances, light weight, etc. Integrate some sort of foolproof lock on there and it'd be brilliant.

and its mounted upside down (the angle/bend goes down)

oh.....i see its not upside down its shorter ;-)

Or you could just buy the Switronix plate and have the perfect solution. Passes the battery status info, which the IDX plate does not do.

I tried to do just that today but it looks like Abel is out of stock on the Switronix... same with the Zucuto Zred Zwivel... and I can't find any mention of the Redbyte Decimator Downconverter that you said Abel was carrying back in June.

But the Element Technica breakout box is in stock so I am one for four with that.

The fun part of trying to buy low volume items is the limited number of distributors and the limited inventory carried by them.

Does anyone know of a good alternative to the Switronix plate?

I think I can go through the Zacuto website and order the Zwivel from them (at full list of course). And I found that TECADS sells the Decimator (actually above list). But the Switronix is available (or not available as the case may be) "exclusively at Abel Cine".

Earlier this morning it was looking like I could buy at one place and have one shipment- now it is looking like three places, three shipments and one S.O.L.

Clint, did you speak with a Sales Rep. or try to order off the website? We only stock so much on the shelf at any moment and if someone comes in and buys them all then the inventory goes to zero. But we have an automatic system for reordering and just because something is out of stock at that moment doesn't mean we couldn't have them available the next day.

Please feel free to contact me directly and we can arrange to get you all of the items you are interested in.
