why?
I see them... but do not know the use?
cold weather to defog the eyepiece?
picky operators who love luxurious heat on their eye?

let me know..
Mitch.. I know you sell them.. fill me in

The eye piece heater is mainly used for "DEW" reasons, condensation that appears on the glass, you can surely clean the outside but not when it forms on the inside, and I must tell you that it is much comfort to rest your eye on a warm eyepiece vs. resting it on a near freezing rubber eyepiece.

BTW, this they are rented in many places but the cost about 1K to purchase!

I haven't seen one on any RED ONEs as yet., but anything is possible, and after seen what the guys at Paradise FX are capable of customizing for their 3D rigs, I imagine that you can custom fit anything to anything.

Also I have used plenty of Heat patches, normally used to keep your feet warm, hehe.

ciao

I think it was CE that made a universal eyepiece heater. Was a heating cuff that went to the power cable of your choice. I think the EVF gets warm enough so that it won't fog in cold weather.

I have seen EVFs that have been modified with an eyepiece heater, but I can't go into detail. It is possible and it works like charm... but it'll void the bejeezus out of your warranty.

That'd be a nice feature request for the new RED EVF [the one that looks like a bomb]... a heater.

Actually an eyepiece heater or something to heat the Red EVF is essential if you're shooting in conditions around freezing. The Red EVF starts to band and you cannot get a good picture out of it at all in cold weather. I was shooting some hockey footage in an arena recently and the problem just started to show up at the end of the shoot. It couldn't have been colder than-3 or -5 degrees Celsius. It's happened a lot faster in colder consitions too.

yah but the red heater needs to be a sock almost.. that would cover the whole thing..

I´ve shot soccer matches in open stadiums every Sunday for years with Arri SR Evolution HS cameras, and in very wet winter nights or rainy days the P+S Technik heater was very useful to avoid fogging. I´ve used the Red in a couple of matches at rainy nights and it didn´t fog... maybe it keeps warm enough by itself.
Never shot in sub-freezing conditions...
