  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has everyone else has experimented the same ?

I find the 2K images coming out of FCP/Color look extremely sharp if i compare to ProRes export from REDCINE.

To approach that sharpness with REDCINE, i have to use DPX.

Is there sharpening automatically applied in the process ?

thanks

Antoine

No Automatic sharpening applied that I know of. However, if set, it will use a "half high" demosaic from 4k to 2k, which is inherently sharp because of the very nice downsample filter used. Is the sharpness a problem?

Hi Graeme,

A problem with the sharpness ? No, for sure No!

It looks kind of IMAX like on a TV monitor without beeing "edgy".

I was curious because of the great speed/quality of the scaling in the FCP/Color workflow. It looks very very sharp.

I'm trying to figure how i will match that sharpness with other apps for 3K footage because Color can't scale 3K to 2 K.

If only Color could do 3K to 2K !!!

Great and very easy workflow.

thanks!

Luca,

I get an error message for the link.

Luca,

...in your example, to my eyes, Color looks sharper.

Graeme,

When you say "if set"... do you mean we can choose the demosaic quality in Color ?

I can't find this setting in Color.

Antoine

Color takes it's demosaic, either "half-standard" or "half-high" from the proxy settings. FCP takes it from the control panel.

Do you mean that reconnecting M proxies with H proxies in final cut before exporting to Color enable half-high debayer instead of half-standard?

Color has a proxy feature of it's own, for playback, render, etc. It's from these that the settings are taken.

I see. But usually on my laptop I use Color with all proxy settings set to quarter resolution, then I disable proxy settings before rendering, in this way I obtain very sharp proxies. Is it correct?

Holy...

It already looked beautifull and it was at Half-Standard in Syst prefs!!!!!

Looks even better in Half-High!!! :)

thanks!

Now...

How can we work with 3K files (for slow motion) in a 2K timeline with FCP/Color...

That's missing right now.
