  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Extremely blue footage when using motion mount

Thanks.
Is it a metadata error wich is not displayed in RCX? When lowering the blue (and a bit the green) channel in RCX it looks normal (no clipping of the blue channel).
Have you also noticed it on the camera LCD?

Thanks for taking a look Pat. Yes visible on camera LCD, also as you mentioned can totally be color corrected to something normal-ish but as it's a ramping scale of blue tint, each shot needs to be fixed separately. I definitely found that with the higher ND settings it was very difficult to get things totally normal. seems to kill skin tones the most.

When you are in RAW view filming at 5000k a gray card for example and over exposing it, do the B channel clip way before the R G on the post light meter?
I was arguing that it could be a false metadata sent to the file...

But if there is really a color shift happening it would be really desapointing.

There have been multiple times in the past where REDCine updates cause a metadata glitch that doesn't correct for the blue tint in the Motion Mount -- As you increase your ND amount, the motion mount does in fact get bluer and bluer, but the raw processing corrects it out. It's kind of a behind the scenes adjustment that happens. Two different REDcine updates in the past came with this bug and they were corrected in the next version each time. Hopefully RED notices and patches it out soon. I no longer have a Motion Mount nor do I own a RED so I can't test for you but someone else might be able to.

I mainly use resolve, only red cine x when I am checking into tech issue. The blue cast is present on the camera LCD as well as resolve. I sent mine back in, pretty much unusable. Yes possible to correct out but really tough to see through it in the wild.

I just got my Standard OLPF and I experienced the same thing with the Motion Mount. (Blue/cyan cast)

When I use the Standard OLPF and change the OLPF settings in camera to "Lowlight" the blue cast dissapear. I haven't really shot some test yet but it seems fine.

Don't know if this method will work when using the Motion Mount (and change to standard OLPF setting in camera when using a regular mount) For now, just a quick fix and maybe someone from RED can chime in on how to solve the problem.

Motion mount is best used in global shutter up to 4 stops
