"eXtinction" web premier starring Summer Rayne Oakes! Directed by Clay Haskell

Hello everyone,

Its a pleasure to finally share this little labor of love, written by and starring Summer Rayne Oakes, Directed and shot by myself with additional footage provided by our own Tom Lowe and Christian Munoz-Donoso. Slim to no budget, very little time, but a lot to say and I am extremely pleased with the final outcome that would not have been made possible with the help from those who provided material and time to make this happen, including Timur Civan and Ketch Rossi. Everyone poured their hearts into it and as a result the film had a successful launch and played all over the globe, and today we are premiering it online. So if you have not seen it already then enjoy and please share and spread the word. Dont hesitate to ask questions, Summer Rayne is a member of the Reduser community as well and she will be here to follow up. Cheers.

Clay Haskell

****NOTE to the viewer. Watch in HD...FULL SCREEN....and turn up the audio. :yesnod:

Hi all,
Thank you for taking the time to view this potent little piece of film that Clay so wonderfully directed and a great community of people helped create. We really did pour our hearts into this film and if you have a chance to watch and share, we would appreciate it. We promise that you'll be moved.

The film itself as been a remarkable experience and has received some great praise at film festivals, garnering awards for “Best Editing,” “Best Environmental Film,” and “Best Experimental Film." The editing was done by Stavros Stavropoulos who was just masterful. And we even received some great praise, including from Studio chairman Harvey Weinstein, which is totally rad. :)

The film itself humanizes loss. It gives the viewer a way to contextualize the speed of ecosystem degradation by giving us a chilling reminder of our own mortality. It is my hope that the film will touch your soul by highlighting our collective vulnerability. The combination of striking images, timeless music, and a powerful underlying message ought to create a spiritual experience. It is meant to be concise and direct; it neither indulges in excessive pedantry nor proselytizes an environmental ideology. It simply reveals the beauty of our natural world, and spotlights what we stand to lose within a lifetime.

Do enjoy. And please let us know what you think.

Much love,
Summer Rayne

Thanks John, I have some nice screen grabs I will be posting soon.

What is the point of the nude swimming? I get everything else about the short and enjoyed it, but the swimming seems disconnected from the narrative.

Hi Andrew, there are many levels of meaning behind the swimming. Clay had initially suggested it for the reason that life was born from our oceans. So there is a sense of rebirth, re-emergence, a return to nature. There is of course, more literal meanings too. AS much as we are a green and blue planet, it is mostly blue, comprising 70% of our world... To take that and breathe life to our waters in the purest form - a woman unencumbered, embracing the cold wave...brings an added level of sensuality to the film....

Besides being a symbol of whats at stake here...the water serves as a life line, a space from which she is born, struggles from the darkness and ultimately ascending through life and beyond. She is attempting to surface, to break through, to evolve.

Yo Clay, it's not HD. Is that on purpose? Not saying that Vimeo HD is the best, but it's better than its SD (and better than Youtube.) I'm going to hold out watching until you reply.

Well done! All I can think of is my children and the environmental legacy I'm leaving behind. Someone recently said we have to change the way we perceive things, we are not stuck in traffic jams we are the traffic jam. Anyway, I'm digressing a bit, your film is beautiful in many ways, congratulations.

That may be my fault. I had added a "take action" element at the end of the film and I may have downgraded it when I redid the film. Sorry about that. Clay, if there is a way to do the HD version with the take action piece in the back, please let me know. Hope all of you will watch anyway. Much appreciation. Sum
