For some reason, whenever I export a red file (havent tried with other file types just yet) rather than exporting a widescreen image as it shows when grading and as it should having shot in "4k" it is exporting what appears to be a 4:3 box and letterboxingthe footage to the correct aspect. The files that go through this still come out saying they are 4k, but this makes the workflow more difficult down the line. After I try an export that that occurs to and go back to my timeline, all the footage is then letterboxed within 4:3 even in the color tab and im forced to restart the program.

Anyone know whats going on?

Edit* This problem only occurs when going to higher than hd resolution, is this normal?

Footage is 4k and I am on the full version. I am monitoring in 1080 for the grade at quarter debayer. In the delivery tab I am selecting the 4k film resolution and proress 444. I am also selecting the checkboxes at the bottom for forcing highest quality debayer and force sizing to highest quality.

everything looks correct in the viewer until I hit star render, at which point even in the viewer where it shows a current render, I see it snap to 4:3 letter boxed. None of the image is getting cut off, but it is all letterboxed. This creates a problem for me as we are using resolve for finishing and never going back to another program..

4K film is 4:3 aspect ratio, 4096x3072 pixels. Change your render resolution to 4096x2304 for 16:9 or 4096x 2048 for 2:1 project. 4K film scan is 4:3. Don't think there's a preset for it.

Yes good point. There can definitely be confusion over the preset resolutions in Davinci.

Peter, since you're here... the performance of using 4K material in an HD timeline is realtime. So if I work in an HD timeline and then switch to a 4K timeline before export, does everything scale up properly? Specifically attributes like blur/sharpen. Would they need to be adjusted for a larger resolution when exporting?

Thanks!
