With the 10.0.6 update you can select just a portion of your timeline (by using the range tool) and export that.
It's a bit confusing in the sense that the user-interface is the same as the range tool, you select a range in your primary for instance, and it will export that selection just like you edit it (if it's with connected clips on top, they will all export), but the user interface just shows you the range on the primary.
