A request

A request

Anthony,

I have a request: Can you make a mount for the breakout box that will have a 5/8" male or female stud?

That way I can mount it on the end of C-stands, or monitors stands, or clamp it to Tripod legs.

Is this hard to do?

Jay,

I have an idea of what you can use to mount the RIB. Will test it here and let you know.

Hey Jay - looks like your youtube links aren't working.

I am so looking forward to getting mine. I hope to have it any day now.

Anthony has shown me prototypes of the design on a few occasions. Very nice.

Anthony, very nice product. Very useful.

I wonder if the power cable to the camera from the RIP might be out of the way better if it had a right angle connector and have a shorter cable. In Jay's video is looks as though the power cable is out away from the camera body quite a distance. It might be good to have less chance of being caught and pulled if it was tighter to the camera body. Just a thought.

Great piece of gear. Congratulations on bringing it to market.

Very interesting day...

Very interesting day...

I went to a pre-setup day with my RED at the DP's house today. It was their first time working with the RED, so they wanted a shake-down and overview of the camera for 1st AC, sound dept, etc.

Well what I did not know was that I was going to be one of two REDs on the set. The other owner (Who I am not going to name) did not have a RIP or RIB.

Well sound walked right up to my camera and all was going well everything was as they expected it, and in a few minutes they were up to speed.

When the other camera was set up, sound and a few other people went said to the other camera owner "Your camera's not finished, you're missing the part on the side".

The other owner had to sheepishly say that the ASL panel was an "aftermarket addiiton" and that for his camera they needed to use the smaller ports and he would supply adaptors.

Well, as you can imagine, I was placed as "A" camera. And I was also booked for any additional make-up days. 3 promised, 6 possible.

So.. It took less than a week for this thing to pay for itself.

Anthony, you guys rock.. Thanks.

I'm working with the panel and breakout box now. It's much easier to get things done now. I could not be happier with it.

Hi Anthony,
I see that the maximum cable length is 50', what are the limitations if exceeded. Longer runs would be handy on a set.

Dennis, We actually tested to 70' if needed it can be set when EQ'ing the cable length on the RIB. What happens however is that HDSDI 1 & 2 begin to drop off, however Preview maintains it integrity at that length, as well as audio. PM me if you have any other questions.

Jay, We are really glad that you are happy with the system and seem to enjoy the performance you are getting from it. We all are really pleased with the review you gave us.

Best,

There are aloot of places to get interferance. It's quite large and screwed to the camera body. Much easier to replace a bad mini xlr cable IMO.

Tell that to the sound people.. Tell that to the Video Assist guys.

If you mean easier as in "cheaper" I would agree, from the owner's POV.. But from thiers... They don' t like the mini ports. And they make no bones about saying so.

:)

I am surprised that this thread is not getting more interest. The videos have quite a few views, but yet I get the feeling people did not "lock on" to this like I thought they would.

For my own education, I'd like a discussion on this. Do you like this product? Are you thinking of getting one? If not, then why.

Educate me please.

Mr. Farland.. What about you? I know you pretty well. What are your views on this

Progress report

Progress report

Just to let you all know I have used the Side Panel and breakout box on at least 6 shoots to date and this thing is bullet proof.

I am amazed as how much good feedback we're getting from the people on the set.

The most common line is when they look at the side of the camera and say "Hey! I thought we were gonna have to use a bunch of mini adaptor things!"

The breakout box is starting to become more and more popular as well. I use it cause it allows me to unhook from camera that much faster!

Just wondering how other people are doing with their units.
