Well I've been waiting for this for a long time! ASL Gear has finally come out with their Remote Interface Panel (RIP) and their Remote Interface (Break-Out) Box (RIB).

Some of you may remember back in Oct of '06 we were talking about the cables coming off the side and the size of the connectors, then we were gabbing about it again in '07.

Well Anthony Lenzo and the gang have made one hell of a wonderful solution for the RED.. One of the best I have seen.

(As per David Farland's suggestion here's the link to the basic info and price on ASL Gear's site:
http://aslgear.com/REDOne.aspx )

It does so much that I decided to put together a little video that shows you what it can do. Enjoy it!!!

Since I was already making this thing, I also made an installation video, but that won't be online for a little bit yet. I'll let you know when I get it up.

This is so cool.. Thanks Anthony! :w00t:

Enjoy
Jay

PS Just checked the video, and YOU TUBE screwed up the audio in the 2nd half.. I'm getting it fixed.

Jay,

very nice,

also I saw it before and was asking myself why they did not push harder to get all the things wider accepted.

Now we've finally got it.

Good night, and good luck.

Thanks Sanjin!

Glad you like it. Unlike other accessories for RED, this one is not very self evident as to it's features in something like a photograph. It's easy to see what a handheld rig would to, or a lens mount, but this item is a lot more complex, so I thought it would be a good idea to do a show and tell on it.

There will be an installation video up later, but I went one minute over the time limit on youtube.. So I have to edit a little. Also I need to fix the friggin audio on the one I just uploaded. Give me a little time.

Jay,

I mean that stuff for RED1 is really good and professional.

Could be the best I saw for RED from all that 3rd parties.

Nice work, ASLG. This is outstanding.

It would be cool if the breakout box had an additional connection for a remote Start/Stop button.

If I am correct, the breakout box will most likely be mounted somehwere out of the way, and have plenty of cables plugged into it... If you were able to attach an extended remote control, it might be a bit more accessible.

Oh, and one last question... how much? ;-) [edit: I see now on their website: Price: $3,790.00]

Very nice video & gear Jay....

I've added this link to my accessory post.

Did you watch the video?!

The breakout box DOES have a remote start and stop, WITH TALLY light.
And the range is up to 50'

Yes, I watched the entire video.

I'm talking about a remote Start Stop button on a wire, that can plug into the Breakout, so you don't have to hold the entire Breakout Box when you want to trigger it.

Imagine a wire with a trigger attached to the end, similar to ViewFactor Origo, but this one plugs into the Breakout Box.

Ohhhhhhhh. I get you. Well I can understand why you would want that. Hmmm..

Oh well. There are products for that. And there are TWO GPIO ports. So I guess you could give Viewfactor a call and get that one. It seems to be exactly what you are looking for.

I am fine with the breakout box.. It's no larger than the palm of my hand, and it works well for me.

Another Point:

From what I understand you can buy the PANEL separate.. Perhaps that's all you need, and then you can get the start/stop button from Viewfactor.

Because I do a decent amount of Jib work, the Breakout box is worth it's weight in gold.

Jay

Jay, nicely done!

Would love to have those guys back at the NAB event this year. It was great for people to have hands on experience with the accessories so they could make informed decisions on purchasing.

OK Cool. Just thought they might be able to sprout another connection onto the Breakout Box. :-)

This is an incredible product. Now that RED has been in the field a while, it's great to see what people are coming up with.

Casey, the Breakout box DOES have a 4 pin aux connector specifically incorporated for the exact reason you requested. Plug in Viewfactor's 'Origo' remote and you can extend the range of your GPI trigger on the RIB Break out Box. The RIP Panel also has an aux connector for GPI and power (limited to 1 amp)

Jay, Great video!! Thanks a million. Mind if I embed it on our site?

This looks very good indeed - like how the outputs on the camera are angled, and how you get full access to all 4 XLRs on the breakout box.

I guess it is a bit early to ask, but I'll try anyway: Will these work on the Epic?

P.S. Has the video been pulled? Can't get it to work.

The technology can work on several platforms. To get it to work on the EPIC is a matter of making it fit the EPIC. Until specs are received, we cannot begin to even start prelims. As it stands, its designed for the RED One....the system that we all currently enjoy. That's our focus now.
