I've searched the forum but can't find any info. I remember somewhere someone saying they had a dodgy cable which did it, but could it come from something else? Might a firmware reinstall sort it out?

thanks in advance

I have the same message come up, when my EVF switches on, which it hasn't been doing lately...now it sometimes switches on, then suddenly just goes off, but I have found that hitting the buttons makes it sometimes come back to life...has this ever happened to any one?

I see the same warning message on boot-up, but the EVF always works fine, and the "initialising" image appears straight after the message. This is happening on v30.6.12.
I usually have both EVF and Red LCD connected.

Bomb EVF not available.

Bomb EVF not available.

If this happens it's normally a symptom of (temporary) loss of communication between the camera and the RED-EVF.

So first check the cable between the two.. and make sure the LEMO plug is fully engaged into the socket - don't brute force it though - it just needs to be fitting snugly. You should hear a "click" when it's engaged.
