Hi RED team. I foresee a future problem with the EVF and LCD. Cables are a common problem area when it comes to equipment failure. If cables are involved they first thing I check if I am having problems. So I always carry at least one extra cable for every one I need. The EVF comes with only 1 cable and I could see this causing big problems. The way the RED arm moves around so much there will fairly often be strain on the cable and sooner or later it will go. I think it is in every owners and REDs best interest that everyone has a spare cable. That way no producer can say RED is a bad camera when the cable goes and the day is lost. ARRI cameras come with multiple cables for every accessory. It would be great if RED would include a spare cable for the EVF, LCD and RED drive. I think this will save a lot of us a bunch of grief.

I'm sure that Red will sell you as many cables as you need.

I guess I should of mentioned that I know we can buy 3' and 10' cables but there is no 1' offered which is the size that comes with the EVF and all you would need as a spare. I don't even mind paying something extra for the spare cable but think it should be a fairly decent price as spare cables usually come standard.

I think you can be pretty sure that RED will offer spare parts, like an extra 1' cable, an extra rod or as has been mentioned, all of the red rail parts as individual pieces. The current price list is pretty limited to get us started, but I would think you'll find a much more extensive one at a later point.

you can buy extra cables if you want them.. Red isnt going to give you a bunch of cables for free considering the price both the EVF and the LCD is being sold for.

Let me make clear that crying for free stuff was not my intention here. All I am trying to state is that everyone that ends up buying a camera should consider at least 1 spare cable for each cable they need as a requirement and not an option. IMHO RED should state this to each buyer and price them accordingly. I hope this comes accross a little more clear.

It is not RED's job to be responsible for the not so smart camera owners out there. It is not RED's job to hold our hands and tell us well you should really buy more then one battery, more then one charger, more then one drive. As an owner you should know that sometimes equiment dose fail in the filed. And it is a good DP/Operators job to know this.

Spare viewfinder cables do not come standard. I've owned dozens of cameras and have never received a spare cable w/ purchase.

BTW- In 25 years of shooting I have only had one viewfinder cable fail.

In the video camera world this is true but not with the film ARRI or Aaton cables needed for the camera come with spares. Also you own dozens of cameras????????? Like what 36 or 48 of them? Are you a television network?

Also if you have had 1 viewfinder cable fail you think that you would of learned that 1 is one to many but then I guess you just grabbed one of the 138 cameras you have sitting on the shelf and used it instead.

for what its worth, we are aware of the needs of strong durable cables...

We have upgraded and improved our cables 3 times already in the last month alone to make sure the shipping cables are suitable for daily combat.

Good to hear.

Digitalfx I have gone out on the town everytime a ARRI rep is in town and found that relationship turns into a lot of freebee's.

yeah it has always confused me how a $2 usb hub can come with a cable but a $200 printer doesnt.

bad habits die hard i guess.

Why problems? And not issues, for instance?
