  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

Where is the latest supported lens list?

If your lens is not on the list, it's ok, you still will get rudimentary support, such as IRIS control and Stabilization if the lens has it.

How shoud I read this. You can use the canon mount with lenses that is not on the list and the basics suchs as IRIS control and stabilization will work.
Then is just the autofocus functions that will not work.

That is how I understand it and so far I find it to be true, though I have not put a very large variety of electronic lenses on.

ah, if only this were true for the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC (vibration compensation) stabilized lens...
(happy to provide mine as a Loaner to firmware it)

Quite a few builds later... any plans for an update with extender support?

With the Canon III 1.4x & 2X extenders on the 70-200 2.8 II focus control is disabled and iris control is disabled if IS is enabled when the lens is attached.
Same problems with extenders on the 400 2.8 IS II and 300 2.8 IS II.

Extender support is not really integrated yet.. you just got lucky. Some lenses require minimal effort to pass data through to function, Right now with the 70-200, the 200 2.8 and the 200 2.0 will work with AF, Focal Length and IS. . All other longer lenses will only partially work till the code is fully implemented. sometimes if you put the IS on on the lenses that are not supported yet AF will stop functioning yet.

Proper support will happen in next couple builds.

Can anyone confirm when the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 will be fully supported on the Epic Canon mount? It's fine on my Epic for the first iris adjustment but after that I lose ability to adjust aperture unless I unseat lens or reset camera.

Really? I only loose communication to the lens when i try to go lower than 1.8, because the the camera thinks this lens can do 1.7. So i just have to make sure i do not accidentally press that button one more time. ;)

As far as I can tell, it really can do f1.7 or at least when I choose f1.7 it gets noticeably brighter than f1.8. But if I don't fiddle with the aperture at all, the lens stays in communication with the camera. As soon as I go either way with the aperture, it cuts out after about 10 seconds.

Must be at least a year ago where it was said that rack focus would have more options, like duration (in secs) for the transitions. Has there been any progress on this? Would be great if you could rack between more than 2 points.

Same problem with the new Canon 200-400 f4 IS, control is lost when you engage the built-in 1.4 extender. This lens is excellent even at 560mm and costs almost as much as an epic so it seems it fits your criteria for support.

These problems with the extenders and newer IS lenses are limiting our use of Epics on military and wildlife projects.

We are starting with the best lenses.. then trickling down to everything else. Whatever name is on the lens makes no difference.
