  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

You might have been able to predict you needed more than a thousand or so of those. :)

Folks might end up ordering one of these.

just an update.. we just ran out of mount caps today, Won't get another shipment in till next week. So we will ship this weeks mounts without caps so you can get them sooner, and then send those orders the lens caps separately ( we will pay for the shipping on those ) next week when they come in... I assume that is ok with everyone..

Thanks for the update.

Please ship them babies out without the cap.

We are desperate out here now.

Thanks

Yes.

Not a big fan of the camera it's on but I think it's a pretty sexy cnc video.

Jarred - Can you please confirm that the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens is on the list to be officially supported list at some point? If so, do you have a ballpark timeframe?

Thanks!

Tom

We need a dedicated thread or sticky for this topic.

Anything you say man to get them quickly!.... You must have sold thousands of these things? are people buying 2 per camera or something? ... Seems like the EPICs themselves are flying out the door quicker?

I just got an email for saying my EPIC -X in the 3000's is ready! (which is awesome by the way).

Thanks for the update Jarred. But my question is how many of these are going out each week.

I'm not answering for Jarred... but lets do a bit of math..

I just got one of my "Your EPIC X is ready" emails No.3300... ish.. there are about 4000 in the wild as I guestimate. Including "M"s

Just say every single person that is getting or wanting and EPIC has ordered a Canon mount.. say 10,000 +

Canon mounts have been slowly coming out since August?... no.. ? so thats 10,000 orders Divided by 90days = 111 per day? but people that had ordered within the first hour still don't have there mounts...
So thats 1 in 90 days... so that equates toooooo..... guessing... rough calculations flying through my little brain...

I'd say.. 8 to 12 per day being made and delivered...

Just a wild flying plucking figures out of the air big arse guess... Jarred siad they are tooling with more machines! (not sure how many) but hopefully this means we will have ours before Christmas?

So... Mark. Are you happy with your EPIC?

Jim

My 2 Epics :) soon to be 3 Epics... and soon to be 6... thats my love of the camera.

Most certainly am Jim... Most certainly am !!!

And I have shared my journey with these amazing cameras as I travel the world so much so that people think I work for RED, because i sell its qualities so heavily.

Aaaaaaaand I have converted about 100+ Alexa devoties over to RED EPICs with most purchasing now... (they all just have to see it kicking arse in the field to really take notice)

So yes. Could not be happier with the Camera. And even happier once you get that PLAYBACK released, I will be so over the moon...

Thanks for asking :)

Absolutely.. it's on the soon list.

Do you guys have a policy / priority list for supporting lenses, especially as far as third party lenses go? A friend recently asked me to check whether his not-so-lovely sigma 70-210 currently worked; it doesn't. That's no great loss to world cinema, but I just wondered if you're intending to characterise many beyond Canon and Nikon's own stuff? I know there was a list, but search is failing me...

of course... we have already done most of the Sigma Primes and the Tamron zooms... adding other brand lenses all the time. We are up to almost 70 lenses total characterized for the Canon Mount alone. Right now, trying to make sure all the L series is sorted first.. that is priority... and we sneak in a few of our favorite ones along the way.

Nice one Jarred. L's are the priority for me too, but I know a bunch of Red newbies aiming at Scarlet will want to use more cost conscious glass. Hopefully not always ancient crocks like the Sigma my mate gave me to test (!)

Hey Jarred,

Thought I'd ask again:

Can you comment on the responsiveness of the Redmote Pro and Canon L Series glass? Could you 'competently, accurately, and quickly' pull focus with this system? ie if one was looking at setting a kit up and deciding on glass would you recommended (given the above) the Canon glass? Responsiveness though? :-)

Thanks!

Each lens responds differently to autofocus commands.. some motors are rather slow ( the 85mm 1.2 L for example moves VERY slow because of the mass of glass ) and some move quick.. one of the reasons each lens needs it's own characterization. The great thing about having a digital foot readout on your display is you can see where you are at.. and we are doing our best to relay those commands to " neutralize " the speeds so they are more or less consistent if need be, based off the slowest of the lenses you are using.
