  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

Is there a recommended torque for the mount bolts? The manual doesn't specify anything other than "snug".

(The Red One PL mount Torx Plus had a Brent recommended 0.45Nm)

Mike I'm pretty sure that your assumptions about the FL conversions in the middle of the blog are completely wrong. You may want to remove/correct them before getting bashed...
Just a friendly advice...

Do you mean the 7D comment ? As in the field of view? We shot with a lens on the 7D and on the EPIC with the canon mount... and compared... this isnt an assumption this was testing.
Or are you referring to something else?

the only exception at the moment is the doubler on my 70 to 200 - but RED knows about this...

Hi Mike,
Nice article! I'm now looking all the more forward to getting my canon mount notice from Red. One question: you mention an issue with using the doubler with the 70-200. I appreciate that we don't want to raise too many red flags on beta products, but as I am hoping to use my doubler and the 70-200 would you mind adding a bit of detail here? Fully aware by your statement that Red support is working on a resolution. I'm just curious what I can expect to work out of the gate, and what I'll have to wait some time for.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Mike,
I reread it. I guess it is unclear about you comparing 7D to S35. They are essentially the same.
But now I'm thinking you were comparing to 5D? Either way it's dangerous to do that I'm trying to stay away from conversions. 50 is a 50 no matter what . Somehow most people think that the lens somehow changes it's FL depending on the camera and it has caused a lot of confusion.
But it may be me- if so-never mind...

Both Canon extenders are on the list :)

is shipping already? i did not received my email...should I ask my rep?

thanks pal.
cheers

Anyone getting these?

how about setting back focus when you change the mount?
Does the RED FOCUS support Canon & PL Mounts?
If not can you set back focus on the PL mount and change to the Canon mount and it still be spot on?

I tested an early version of this mount. Field Swapped it myself. it was spot on when I swapped it myself. There are severe tolerance issues an any canon autofocus lens. The barrel markings mean essentially nothing because they calibrate electronically. That being said - I could achieve infinity focus in the correct place, and minimum focus distance was correct on the 24-70 f2.8 70-200 f2.8, and 16-35 f2.8's that I tested. I wouldn't give much if any credence to the barrel markings besides infinity and minimum focus on canon lenses.

The quality of the mount is top notch and worth the money.
