  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Everything you wanted to know about the EPIC Canon Mount

Aaaawmazing.... Can't wait to throw on those L-series... Just one thing I love about everything RED is that it just looks sick! Pure gear porn!

Question: will you have these puppies on stock in large quantities or will they be on backorder 10 minutes after they went live?

Wow you finaly did it. Looks and sounds great.
You will have my 2K for sure.
I know I ask every time but how far away is the Redmote Pro? Just an estimate. I'm just a few clicks away of buying a Birger Mount and create an Epic mount for it. But if the Redmote Pro is pretty near, then I forget about it and just wait a bit.

Thanks Jarred.

Best
Tim

Love the idea.. but I think that may be pushing these lenses a little too far past what they were intended to do :)

Thanks so much for the info, Jarred! That was super helpful for my long-term planning :)

I will go to plans B/C/D - eg get a fixed Scarlet / wait for Red Electronic lenses / be nice to people with expensive lenses and motors then...

(and will probably still give the Canon thing a go anyway just for fun!)

Congrats on your very beautiful-looking mount by the way. You guys are really doing it right.

I'm going to go back to my 17th hour at work doing a fancy-schmancy big 3D movie trailer now... double overtime goes towards the filmmaking fund! Need free time though...

Interesting

Can you give an ETA on the Nikon mount? The Canon mount looks wonderful, btw.

Just one more thing

How will volume of supply be? This accessory is clearly hugely anticipated and we're all going to be doing the electronic equivalent of camping outside the store three nights ahead. Should we all relax, or should I budget for a new refresh button?

We have Stage 2 and no need for a PL mount. Can we sub the Canon mount in our package or will there be an additional cost required? Trying to figure out what our total package price is going to be now that everything is so close to shipping.

Oh and that mount is super badass. Props!

How many are you building in the first batch?
So sweet!

Looks great and sounds like it will work great. Good news for all the Canon guys!

I'm going to use the N-word.

Nikon.... :)

I assume there's a fair amount of common code controlling both mounts, although Nikon is obviously a little different at the electrical and mechanical level. Is the release of the Canon mount something we Nikon folks should consider good news?

Would you care to take a stab at guessing whether or not the Nikon electronic mount will be shipping by the time you're well into shipping Stage 3 cameras?

Thanks

Mike

I have a lot of Nikon Glass. I like canon glass too.

The good thing about the Canon mount is that you can put a Canon adaptor on a Nikon lens, but it can not work the other way.

So, with a Canon mount and a Canon to Nikon adaptor you have an excellent short term solution (with the nikon's it becomes a dumb mount) and fully functioning Canon glass. If Nikon had been first the Canon glass would have to wait. This way, you can use it all until the Nikon mount ships.

With the added benefit of the PL style lock, I'm guessing the Nikon Glass will be pretty tight in the canon mount with an adapter, but i'd have to try it.

I'm not saying it is a long term solution, but it is possible.

Maybe Ketch will let me test this out with some of my Nikon glass next time I see him.

Yes, the question for all of us "cheapie" Canon buffs is when the REDMOTE Pro—with a real focus wheel—will become available. Is that likely to see the light of day before the end of the year???

This is a totally exciting development!!!
