What do you think is the real cost of a Red Epic-M package if it were all Epic-X production models? For example, what if someone wanted to buy all the contents for Epic-X when it is released? How much do you think that would cost?

People have added it up to be around $45k. The surcharge is because of extremely expensive parts and the fact that they are hand built, not put together on an assembly line. Also has a titanium mount, that the X will not have.

People argue the difference being between 10 or 20 grand depending on how you do the calculations. I'm pretty sure that when X is out RED is keeping the M available for purchase since rental houses and the highest end users seem to have a strong desire for the superior craftsmanship/hand machined and assembled body. I don't believe there will be a price drop on M when that happens, and RED has hinted that it will stay the same. If you're really interested in getting an Epic to work with, and gain income off of now, a more useful question might be what the real cost of not owning and M now when the X isn't available and diluting the market. I know X is supposed to be released soon, but I've heard soon for over a year now and supply chain issues still don't seem to have an end in sight so...

EDIT: You can get a titanium mount for X when it comes out for around $2000 (subject to change obviously). The titanium mount is not a differentiating factor between the two models.

According to my EPIC-M invoice, there is about a $7100 premium for the M brain over the $28K for the X brain. Other premiums are negligible in the package, but some of the other features do add up, like the $2500 upcharge for the titanium PL mount. Believe me, YOU WANT the titanium PL mount.

Like I said, there's a premium charge for a couple other things, namely the REDMOTE and side handle, AFAIK. I think they are charging ~$200 more each than what they were supposed to cost.

IMO, the EPIC-M is a huge bargain. If you have any plans to buy an EPIC later this year at normal cost (not Stage-2 or Stage-3), you would be foolish to not just buy the M now (if you can get one). It's about $8K premium over the same package if it were to include an EPIC-X. So just think about that for a minute. If you can't ROI that difference between now and when EPIC-X ships (I'd say they're still at least 30 days away from production), then you probably don't have a reason to own an M. It's more like the $11K that people are talking about when you factor in costs of the titanium mount or other things, but those are options for the EPIC-X as well. I guess what I'm saying is you could get a similar package with an EPIC-X and aluminum mount and be $10K~$11K cheaper than M if you want. But I think a lot of people will opt for this exact kit. I'm hoping I can get the exact same kit for Stage-2, if that's an option, and price adjusted accordingly. The only thing I would change is I would prefer 2x256GB SSD's over the 4x128GB. I'll be buying an audio or I/O module too so I can have real XLR ports on the camera.

One MILL...ION DOLLARS

I just got the invoice for my M yesterday, and as Jeff mentions, the M looks like a better deal than I anticipated. I don't want to start any rumors, but based on the a la carte prices on the invoice, the X may cost more than anticipated once you add all of the bells and whistles. All of those bells and whistles are "must haves" for me, but someone that wants a stripped down, owner/operator type of package is probably better off waiting for the X.

My mother always told me this....... If you need to ask the price then obviously you can't afford it!

My mother is very wise!

Hey Max, would you mind sharing what the individual prices were for the different parts? Or at least the individual cost differences? I remember seeing a thread about that somewhere but I cant seem to find it.

Congrats, Max! Glad to hear about an Epic in Richmond.

2 Years Warranty Coverage instead of the Standard 1 Year Warranty Coverage is a significant value.

Thanks guys, here's what I've managed to compile after scrubbing the boards a bit. Let me know if you disagree:

1 Epic-M body 28000 28000
1 Titanium PL mount 0
1 Side handle 750 750
1 SSD Module 1500 1500
1 5" Touch LCD 0
1 Bomb EVF 3200 3200
4 128gb RedMag 1800 7200
4 RedVolt Batteries 300 1200
1 Travel Charger 0
1 Custom case 600 600
1 2 year warranty 5000 5000

TOTAL 47450

So it's roughly a 10k premium, minus the cost of the Titanium mount, which I could not find a price for.

Don't forget that some of these parts in the M package cost more because they are machined instead of being cast like those in the X package.

Why $0 for the 2-Year Warranty? Remember when RED ONE warranties expired? Most of us would have gladly paid $5,000 for an extended warranty at the time but RED did not offer a warranty extension option. Apple extended care warranties are usually more than 10% of purchase price.
