  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X UPDATE

The word "fanboy" has been getting a lot of flack all over the net - and here on this forum lately ... yet I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm felling soooooooooooo totally like a Red fanboy right now!

How can you not when you get threads like this? I mean ... honest communication ... package updates (at no extra charge) ... not to mention the constant firmware updates ... sensor upgrade potential ... the list goes on.

Thanks Jarred, you guys rock :)

This is just GREAT! Now, what about Scarlet? Will production of Scarlet follow closely?

What fantastic news!

Waiting for this announcement has been a taste of hell for all of us. I think back to all the times the delay has been discussed - the frustration evident in so many posts - it appears that will soon be history.
I also think of the Japanese people. How they have dealt with disaster can and should be a role model for all of us. Rebuilding their homes, rebuilding their lives - and at the same time, their industrial capacity - in reality, in just so short a timeframe.

The SSD had been inferred in earlier posts. However, including the Ti mount as standard - what a wonderful gift from RED to the Stage 2 stakeholders.

I'm impressed with the news - but enhancements to the physical hardware pales in comparison to what is inside. RDC didn't sit on their hands - everyone on that team kept working on and improving the capabilities that EPIC would bring to us. (Think HDRX for one) We are getting a better product and I'm sure that the world will be treated to a plethora of amazing images - looks like we will soon have the opportunity to get those cameras working.

When we have time to look back, I think we will all agree that it has been well worth the wait.

Thank you

Alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been out all day and just now saw this. Wow! Fuckin A man! I couldn't be happier.

Jim, Jarred, I hope you're still reading this thread, thank you thank you thank you! I can't wait to start rocking my Epic.

That's excellent news, Jarred.

One question, would there be a rear SSD recording module option offered (on top of the package, of course) and, if so, when? It would make things easier for side-by-side 3D setup.

I'm guessing there is some other option replacing the discontinued IO module? I like the option to go small, but having more than 1 SDI out as well as full sized audio definitely has it's place in many situations. Also, I thought the PL mount options were stainless steel and Titanium and that aluminum wasn't going to be manufactured.

we have a few tricks up our sleeves :)

Unlike the R1, only one Red monitor (LCD or EVF) can tap the Epic Brain. The I/O module is necessary for more Red monitoring. But the Epic brain also has HDMI and HD-SDI output, so you could, for instance, have the operator using the EVF while AC pulls focus with an HDMI or HD-SDI monitor, though that would not include menu functionality. Or the AC could operate menus and focus via a Red LCD and the operator could use another HDMI or HD-SDI monitor for framing.

Is that definitive, or only the situatioin right now? I really hope we can have LCD + EVF like with the Red One, otherwise I'm going to end up with a LCD I don't need, most DoPs I know, me included, much prefer to shoot with an EVF, and I'll need to buy some kind of small LCD monitor for the 1st AC.

Besides that, great news on these updates, thank you Red, however with no more I/O module included, the Action Products' base plate with XLR inputs seems very attractive now.

Cheers,
Damien

Great news. I will start saving my pennies for September.

The titanium mount and SSD module are very welcome additions to stage 2. Money saved that will go towards other Epic accessories. Goodbye bank account. Hello awesomeness.

Hi,

It cannot get BETTER THAN THIS.....JUST TOO GOOD RED TEAM>>>SUPER.....

Just wanted to know if there are any plans to set up centers for Support and repairs worldwide (specially in ASIA as I am from India)...considering the number of EPIC's that will be delivered in upcoming year starting September.

I hope this thread satisfy a lot of people here on the Reduser who have been getting frustrated...would like to see a comment from them now.
