  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I am incredibly excited that the start of Epic-X production is in sight! Big thanks to Red for the tremendous effort that went into making this camera, for pricing it within reason, and for being so generous with the upgrade program! Stages 2 and 3 are truly unprecedented: I don't know of any other company that would give this kind of gift on such a broad scale. I feel extremely lucky to be eligible. I just hope that I shoot some work that lives up to the potential of the camera!

I want to apologize to Red on behalf of all the people who have nothing else better to do than bitch and whine about release dates. Thank you Red for all the time and work you have put into your products.

No worries, thanks Andrew. We deserve to get some slack for the delays.. but that slack can be delivered to us in 2 different ways.. constructive or destructive.

We remember those who have supported us through all of this.. and we also remember those that kick us when we are down.

We just may choose to be "selective" next time around when we decide to hand out cookies.

Except that many of them, esp recently, have been completely out of your hands.

Plus you've added things, beaten promised specs, etc...not to mention this GIFT of a stage program.

Takes a pretty serious lack of perspective to be pissed at you guys.

I hope next time you're handing out cookies you find a way to reward guys like me who have been believers since day one but never had enough money to prove it :P

REALITY CHECK

Guys wake up, if there was no RED ONE, what you would be still shooting on HD for the last 3-4 years at ridiculous prices, and models which change because of a whim and fancy or a add on by the manufacturer.
At 20K a 4K camera we could only fantasize was it not for RED, I have mentioned this in the past I have been buying cameras from Umatic days and watched in despair the situation the last ten years since digital.
One is lucky to even get a EPIC package at 20K, stage 2......... or whatever due to the fact that you bought a RED ONE? have you ever got anything like this in the past or even today besides RED.

I look at it this way - I'm the back of the queue and I can wait. Why? Because when its my turn, and I get my toy, I can return the favour to Jim & Jarred with a big bottle of Scottish Whiskey and a large cigar! Any preference?

What you guys have done is nothing short of a miracle. Thanks for keeping it real and my moneys waiting whenever you guys are ready...

no need to send us stuff... the pay off for us, as lame as it sounds, is when you guys go out and shoot stuff that makes us proud. Seriously.

Exactly. As I said before: If it wasn't for RED, I'd be shooting HD and dream of an Alexa. Instead I own a 35mm-like camera, where I can carry everything - including the laboratory - in a rucksack. At the price of what I paid for a DVcam camera not that long ago.

My Sony DSR 570 is now worth USD 0.00 (as told by my dealer). My R1 is worth more than what I paid for it.

That really makes me smile :-) You guys really are in it to see visuals go to the beyond!

It's been so cool to be part of this journey for now quite a few years. Today I took my 4-1/2 year old son to the beach, I got my red reservation the day I learned my wife was pregnant with this guy! While at the beach I went back to the sea cave where I shot that footage you guys used in your demo reel, of the cloaked man with the torch revealing the cave writings and today I found those drawings (that we put there) are still on that cave wall, some 3+ years after I was there with my Red.

I can't tell you how excited/inspired I am to start this next chapter!

This is starting to really pay off for some of you "little" guys that are shooting in 4K.

A customer just told me last week that he had sold a self-financed, self-shot feature, (great story with no-named talent) directly to a small theater chain that just had 4K projectors installed.. He was so happy he could hardly stand it..

Theater owners that have 4K projectors ( I think the number is up to 8000 screens in the US ) are looking for content.. and now that theaters are starting to self-distribute options for the little guy with big resolution are getting some breaks. Once Christie and Barco start selling their finished 4K projectors... the number of screens are going to go up dramatically.

And lets not forget.. 4K displays for home are just around the corner... we all know that... we have all seen them, I don't have enough fingers to count all the manufactures that have 4K displays/ projectors getting ready for market now.

Even for the guys that shot 4K and finished in 1080 for whatever reason.. it's gonna be great to see them able to go back and re-confrom their movies back to 4K and re-sell their projects all over again.

Remember when Bluray and HD-DVD's just came out?... and a lot of us would just buy any title that came out on the format just to experience the increased resolution? Thats gonna be a nice little payback for a lot of you non-million dollar movie makers that saw the writing on the wall...

Having interacted with suppliers for a electronic manufacturing industry from Japan, I understand the situation. You guys are doing terrific work.

Visualising a product like Red one and Epic doesn't happen to everybody. It also doesn't happen every now and then. There can be few ups and downs and it is normal when you dream big. People should have patience. I am sure your mass production (can I use that word?) will start soon.
