However this is the response from RED team to me for the given serial # and name & email id
"Hello Siva.
This email address is not associated with this camera. They are not authorized to transfer this camera without permission from the registered owner.
Thanks,
Rory Brosius
Transfer of Ownership Coordinator - Bomb Squad Representative"
I would have a HUGE red flag there - against RED!
All they have is a record of the most recent recorded owner. The camera could have changed hands, *perfectly legitimately*, several times since then, *without RED being informed*.
Yes RED *like* to keep track of who owns which cameras; the marketing implications are obvious, apart from anything else. And yes, they have a formal camera inspection and transfer procedure, for those who decide they want to use it.
But, (and I make no apology for shouting) no-one is OBLIGED to do this; it's strictly voluntary. And most seriously of all, RED HAVE NO BUSINESS WHATEVER SAYING 'They are not authorized to transfer this camera without permission from the registered owner.'.
That is frankly BULLSHIT.
If the person is the legal owner of the camera, they can sell it, lend it, rent it out, or turn it into an elegant little vase for black flower arrangements.
RED have no way of determining who the legal owner of the camera is, and for them to baldly state that someone who is the LEGAL owner of a camera has no authority to transfer it to someone else is, quite possibly, *actionable*. The current registered owner at RED may have sold the camera (but neglected to inform RED) long ago, and have nothing further to do with it!
RED's efforts to combat theft are appreciated, but don't overreach yourself; you are NOT the RED Market Police, and you are NOT arbiters of who is and isn't authorised to sell a RED camera.
For avoidance of doubt, please note that I'm speaking generally here, and NOT, repeat NOT, as to the circumstances of the individual buyer and seller in this case - about which I know nothing.
