  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic X Package for Sale: NYC.

buy with confidence. Have worked with the camera package he's selling and it's in top condition. I know Ned personally and can vouch that all business is legit.

The reason I don't do Paypal is that it offers little protection for the seller. Having been scammed once, I'd rather not risk it. Also, if you do a little due diligence, you'll see I've been around this site for a while and have bought and sold without incidence. Quite a few here that can vouch for me.

Cash offers no protection for the buyer, My business is interested in picking up an Epic and I would have been interested in this kit if not for the rules against any form of buyer protection.

okay I can see how a wire or cleared check makes the most sense for an epic package, that being said, if you do sell off some stuff separately, I'm interested in a couple of items.. AND paypal is the most convient thing for payment... the idea of trekking through the NYC Blizzard to an atm, trying to pull out a couple of thousand bucks in cash in $20s AND THEN to Brooklyn doesn't sound fun...

I understand what you're saying but you need to see it from both perspectives.. i guess its a trust thing and you can do it person by person if you'd like.. IF somebody wants to buy something on AMEX and you know they are good person you should let them.. I've bought things from Ketch as well via AMEX. I like their 90 day insurance policy in the event something happens... And that doesn't come from you.. If I break the camera with in the first 90 days.. they don't take the money back from you, they just give it back to me as part of their deal.

I don't buy anything for more than 15k unless its on the Amex card.

Hopefully somebody else buys your package.. its too bad... I wanted it.

Louis, protection for the seller is less for the buyer and vice verse. So what do you want me to do? Give up my protection for yours? That's why we rely on reputations for doing good business. Mine's intact - take or leave it.

Paypal's buyer protections put sellers at an unfair risk. Many a seller has been defrauded by buyers claiming to have not received goods or contesting the state of them, holding the merchandise while Paypal refunds the buyer. That's happened to me. It's also not to hard to create a missing claim to get a charge back. I've already deflected two scam artists regarding this Epic sale.

You know where I live, what more do you need. There's many a well reputed member here that only takes wire transfer. I've bought an O'Connor head from Ketch under those terms. It's not a big deal if you trust the person and they've a good rep. So please, if you have some disagreements on how I do business, let's keep it private and don't rain on my parade. Because nothing I've done is remotely unethical or immoral. I'm in no hurry and don't intend to get scammed. Also, Louis, you live in Jersey, I live in NYC. I keep my gear at TCS - now tell me how would you be putting yourself at risk? Really?

And for anyone else out there, you'll think twice about credit card or paypal when you have to sell big ticket items. Just scour the blogs and they're littered with those who've been screwed. Wire is pretty standard these days.
Thank's Ned! I am selling my Epic package in a week or two and reading your post helped me a lot with information.

Well hope it sells : )
Thanks
Ryan

Not sure if I have worked with Ned, but I know TCS keeps things top notch. Wish I had the dough right now! GL w/ sale!

I'm trying my best not to be offended. Shall I post the emails from you, when you offered to give me hundred dollar bills for the brain only (hardly the full package) for 12k. Doesn't quite sound like a prudent Amex only buyer but a true low baller. Shall I post the email in which you seem perturbed that I won't take Amex after I made it clear on this posting I don't take credit card or paypal ? If you don't like the terms, move on to the next seller.

In the last week, I've unloaded about 25k of gear to all members on Reduser - all without incident. I believe we all ended up happy.

Last of all, I agree that I should take credit card from someone I know to be a good person. Do we know eachother? And please cite acts of goodness.

Its ok. I'm definitely not buying the package at this point, and I would have made an offer on the whole package at 34k if you accepted credit. In any event. 12k for a body only that retails for 19k that has had 60 full length shoot days, has been rented (or at least we have to assume so since its kept at a rental house), that absolutely must be cash, is a good offer. I was expecting a counter at 16, I would have countered again at 15, and I hope you would have taken that. A total depreciation on the brain of $4,000. At the rate of $300 per day for the brain only and the fact that you had 60 production days. With me paying $15,000 for the brain only you would have made a $14,000 profit and you would have had cash... no fees, no worrying I was going to screw you over in the future, and no need to be honest and tell the government about the money I handed you.

On the other hand, I would have had to worry that you sold me a camera that had an issue with it that was bound to break in the next couple of weeks with no means of protection. So the negotiations would have yielded a good result for all involved. Cash only deals usually have negotiations and you know that and that is why you wrote to me that you would like me to make you an offer on the brain only when I said I would not be buying a whole camera package for $37,000 cash only. I did, and you backed out, even when I asked for a counter offer.

I too have dealt with many people on reduser my self. A few people on the forums have rented gear from me, some people have leased it and paid paypal over time, and some people have out right bought gear from me. I have also bought many of things from many people, lenses, ssds, cameras, and accessories. Nobody has every complained to me about the negotiation process or been offended by it until you. I even tried to negotiate Ketch down a little bit on our last deal. We're buying used equipment here, not brand new stuff, its normal business to make offers, but since your'e going to call me out on it in public then I guess I'll tell you I was prepared to pay $3,000 more than that and give you a $14,000 profit on your body based on current value of a new camera. I would not have paid more than 15k, or something I could buy brand new with a warranty and no transfer fee, at 19k plus the fact that with that 19k I would have ended up with a tax deductible purchase

Is not sending the camera into RED for it's transfer of ownership check protection for both seller and buyer?

Exactly. And this is how it should be done.

PayPal sucks for large transactions, especially for those of us with "business" accounts where they nail the seller for a 3% transaction fee. Buyer protection? PayPal offers a little security there, not as much as you would think on a P2P or B2B transaction unless it's established through eBay. And that said, their protection is all about buyer protection. Seller protection is not in their vocabulary. I've been burned more times through PayPal than I ever have been by simply taking a check. They offer no protection to either party if the buyer pays via credit card thru PayPal. They just serve as a convenience and once again rape the seller for their 3%.

To properly sell a camera kit like this, one should have a proper bill of sale that lists the terms of the agreement and all items (with serial numbers) included in the sale. Both parties sign it. Camera is sent to RED for evaluation and ownership transfer. RED waits for confirmation from both parties that all terms of the sale have been met before shipping out the camera to the buyer. They don't broker the transaction, but they act as an intermediary and give the camera a thorough check-up with new 90-day warranty in the process. Yes, that costs some too, but well worth it IMO.

As for this thread, WTF? Louis, I understand you're saying you'd like to buy a RED... But Ned's terms seem pretty standard to me. A lot of what you're saying doesn't make sense. Why would you take this out in public anyway, other than to screw with Ned's potential sale to someone else. Not sure I see your angle or motive here. Likewise with the wanting to pay via credit. If you need credit, get it from a bank.

I was only merely pointing out in the beginning of the thread how he wanted cash as a form of sellers protection. I merely pointed out that cash offered no protection what so ever for the buyer and there should be a middle ground where both parties had some exposure to protection. I wasn't trying to prevent the sale, we had a private e-mail conversation with Ned's partner about the sale. I was going to buy it if he waived the no credit card option. I do not in any way need the credit, but its bad business to just go giving people cash for something that is not proven. I need to protect my investments. I apologize if I in any way hindered the sale, that was not my intention. In fact, my intention was to be the person the package was sold to.

In any event, it does not matter as since this thread I have been PMed many offers from a variety of people on RedUser who want to sell me their Epics, I guess I should not have said publicly how much I was willing to pay.

Good luck, I'm not coming back to this thread any more.
