Sanjin I guess you would probably be they person who knows a lot about this.

I was thinking that buying a few M primes would be the most realistic way to afford a set of good primes. My thinking was that they might be better than the ZFs. The speed and mechanics would be half way decent in regards to breathing and f stops and tracking issues.

My intentions would be to start buying them as I can afford them and have Duclos cine-mod them.

So my questions are;

Should I buy Leicas?
Which ones?
How does the Leica M series, R series compare to the Leica cine glass.

Sorry in advance for all the questions.

Jarred told us there is no possibility for short flange @ 27.95mm (Register) or 27.80mm (BFD-Bayonet Flange Distance) that can allow mount of Leica M lenses on Epic.

Hi!

Since EPIC has no shutter mirror, I wonder why these restrictions still exist. I mean there is the OLPF in front of the sensor, but it is still quite thin. At approximately 28mm, the space seems to be enough.

I am just curious, because it would be wonderful to test a lot of interesting and exotic lenses with short FFDs on the EPIC.

Thanks Sanjin,
So I guess that it would be R series glass than?

Yes,

and if you get Canon EOS also is good to get Novoflex L-R to EOS adaptor.

Then you are fine.

No any clue about it but I still do not have my hands on Epic...!!!???

Sanjin

I will have spent all of my cashola on the Epic so.... lenses are going to be a tough one. Should I find a couple of the R primes or go for the 28-90 zoom.

Difficult to say anything serious about it.

It depends on a job.

Zooms are not good at night because generally they have more ghosting and flares in a comparison with primes.

But also not all primes (from any brand, any type still or cine) are good for available and night light (street sodium vapor and cars lights) shooting.

The best you should test for yourself and then make your own choice...

Btw, the newest Leica M aspherical lenses fit perfect to GH2.

There is one very nice example on Vimeo to watch here>>>

If I could only have one lens...it'd be a 25mm.

But zooms have other issues besides what Sanjin said that aren't immediately as noticeable, such as the changing nodal point. I think if I knew a zoom was appropriate for a certain job I would use it, but otherwise I would stick with a couple primes.

Any,

you can decide between Leica 25mm f/1.4 for 4/3 or Cosina Voigtleander 25mm f/0.95mm.

Keep in mind that Leica is still sharper without coma @ f/1.4 than CV 25mm 0/95 @ f/1.4 that still has coma.

Also we are all excited that Leica S2 is coming on Epic:

"This is the same assembly (Leica S2) seen from the front. The large lens mount and mirror can clearly be seen,
plus the prism covered by the metering system and its associated electronics.
Essentially it's all just like a 35mm format DSLR, but bigger."
