I've been away for a few days but I haven't seen any comments about the new top. Any thoughts? Seems to be a bit sleeker.

I think I still like the old shark fin better, but I think the new one looks more "RED." :) Either way, it's the least of my worries. The fact that the camera is actually shipping now is amazing. Both models will prove to be dominant powerhouses in the industry, no doubt about it.

I thought I preferred the new design until I saw the side by side image. The "older" design is much more retro in a postmodern way when you consider what's under the hood. If I had the Epic-M I certainly would not want to upgrade to the newer style unless there was a functionality issue.

I asked in another thread but didn't get a reply - regarding Epic-M's being upgraded with the new design (this was mentioned a while ago in a thread - alongside the new light weight heat-sync used in the Epic-X).

Just wondering really, as a current non Red owner, it means waiting for Epic-X stage 4... or jumping to Epic-M for immediate delivery... but, if there starts to be fundamental differences between the cameras, the choice gets more challenging :) It'll also be interesting to see what happens with the streak/flare issue (I quite like the look of these... but they could be troublesome if teh client doesn't!).

I suppose, once people get their hands on Epic-X to compare with Epic-M's, some of these questions will be answered.

In terms of looks... I like the Epic-M 'fin'... Star Wars & Retro.

The Epic-Ms will be upgraded to the Epic-X heatsink (and new top) at an unknown point in the future. The cameras are basically identical, with the one difference being what you pointed out... immediate delivery. That being said, there is only a $5,000 difference in price point between the two (if you aren't a Stage 2 or 3 holder), so the question is how much is having the camera NOW worth to you? If it's more than $5,000, your choice has been made for you. :)

Love 'Unknown point in the future'... sounds like the start of a SF movie intro... ('at an unknown point in the future... there will only be one camera system... it's name is Epic') LOL!

Seriously, I get the point and have done the maths already... convincing my Business partner that the numbers will add up and a Producer to commit to it for her next scheduled project is my 'Epic' undertaking... wish me luck.
