Anybody come across trying to boot up their EPIC, camera refuses to boot up and displays a Macbeth chart in the EVF? Having quite a few issues with it just not booting up on various batteries of different capacities, stalling at the very beginning but can hear the fan going and then just a Macbeth chart in the EVF but nothing on the LCD. Tried looking in the manual and searching REDUSER but no answer...mind you i just finished a 16 hour day...

yes, really. You'll get much faster results.
Assuming you tried the obvious and replaced cables, tried different monitors, booted camera with nothing attached.

sorry Greg, sarcasm doesn't always communicate well in writing:) Of course a ticket is lodged and we're working through it.

Good to know the colour chart is normal to see briefly as that does happen. I'm finding it randomly with batteries...some work fine some don't. It seems pretty random that it just doesn't like certain vlocks. It's very much going down the road that the epic isn't open to just any vlock and that prior testing of every battery before the shoot to happen. Bit of a shame as if i fly out to another job and don't want to drag 10kg's of batts with me it's going to be uncertain if the ones intended to use will actually fire it up.

I'm really interested to see if this is an issue that other owners are finding or if it may be an isolated incident. I am in conversation with RED support and we'll see where it goes...but i suspect as we are talking third party batts it may just fall by the wayside. Anyway, if anyone has this comes up please let me know here and if you found a reason why.

thanks.

Hi Brigam

I have had my epic for about 3 months now... I have used IDX vlocks without a hitch and also red bricks. I have had a dodgy viewfinder cord though that gave strange issues, but If I ever have a weird thing happen (and that has only been once) I just reinstalled the firmware and everything was fine again.

The EPIC M is very stable and rock solid, I would try those batteries on another EPIC if you can.

Thanks Adam. So far it has been two types of GMP batteries that don't work, but two other makes of the same brand do. Used also Red Bricks and some 5 year old IDX 57wh little things that worked as well. Going to try some later this week on another EPIC if i can get the time.

Well the answer pretty much from RED is that there is no support for third party things like this. That's fine, even though they sell an XLR power cable option which is made for third parties...
So, anyone else finding that not all vlocks are working on the epic...stalling at the Macbeth chart? Would be good to have a list...
