  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X begins...

top ! Thanks to red team !
Jarred, we have a shooting on september to november for the "univesal exhibition in corea 2012" for an french artist, do you know if you thinks it's possible to have the epic for this shooting ?
I HOPE a lot .... btw the image will not red .. :(

Also what is definitely shipping with the Epic X package? other than that freaking sick ass case?

Stage 2:

Stage 2 was changed recently. The newest package includes an EPIC-X Brain, Titanium PL Mount, Side SSD Module, 5" Touchscreen LCD, REDmote, Module Adaptor, Pro Battery Module, 2 REDvolt Batteries and Travel Charger. $28,000 less $8500 credit and keep your RED ONE. Net price $19,500.

I am not a fanboy, just a DP who has worked for 20 yrs and owned RED 1832 for over 3 yrs. I made ROI on my entire, huge camerapackage(including 20 lenses) over a year ago, Just renting it out with myself...I have had a lot of praise to say about the camera and a lot of annoyance with the design and the way filmworkers in general receiving something like the RED. Gotta admit that my camera never really let me down...
And now REDone is somehow out of fashion. For high end commercial work the Alexa/prores has taken over the EU..Completely.
I have shot a lot with the Alexa, GREAT camera, in many ways, but the only real option is to shoot prores ,as ARRIRAW recorders are few and far between.
I have been wanting to kick the Alexa in the balls for a few months now...Epic with a Prores(for editing)module will do just that. Hoping 4K cinema projektors(8.000 in the US and one in Denmark!) will help people to understand the power of 5K.
Really looking forward to the Dragon upgrade, as it will, hopefully, put everything in its place, and shut up a lot of people.
Right now I am just a stupid wide-eyed fanboy loving/wanting my Epic-X!
To qoute Larry David:
Its pretty,pretty good...

And yes(I hate to do this): THE CASE IS WICKED AND AWESOME, AND THE THING INSIDE IT IS AN AWESOME, GAMECHANGING PUPPY!
(Uhh, that felt kind of good, but never again!)

Wow, this is crazy. So many new owners going to start popping up as well!

So is the handle getting thrown in for free? i was under the impression that it was sold separately. Or is that just made with room for the handle?

along with lower rental rates

So there are 28 cameras in this shelf. Produced with 3 days. So by the en of the month there will be 125 more produced, right?

I wouldn't make any assumptions there. Apart from anything else I'm sure they'll ramp volume up very significantly once the line beds down. At your projected rate it would be 2-3 years before they started shipping Stage 3 cameras; that ain't happening!

Dear Jim & Jarred,

I saw this and, bizarrely, thought of you:

Regards,

Mike

Yes, it does.

Justin,

'It does' without qualification? Have you been told something by RED? Because many people here - myself included - have found that it does NOT work. Many reports of original EVF just flashing pink when used on EPIC. Yet some others report their original EVF worked first time. As yet there's no rhyme or reason or explanation.

Hey Mike, no, I hadn't gotten that information from RED. From the threads I've read some M users who have tried the EVF it seemed to work. I didn't see any threads where it said it didn't work. Sorry for the confusion.
