Hi Guys

I'm just on a music video set and have the issue that my epic wont boot anymore.

I had the latest stable firmware release v4.0.18 on the camera for a few days now and it was fine until this morning.

When I press the power button the camera led turns red....the fans start working but the screen wont turn on and the camera wont boot up.

Is anyone else having this issue or any recommendations on what I can try to fix this ??

thank you.

Is it on battery or power supply?? And was there any issues with connecting the power cable when you built it?
Maybe try to load a firmware build on a mag and see it it bumps it in to a reboot when it tries to upload the firmware.
Sorry to hear.

Hi Russ,

running the cam of redbricks. no issues with power cables...before it stopped booting completely the LCD wouldn't turn on so we unplugged and reconnected the LCD a few times to make it work...then on restart the camera stopped booting up completely.
Have a canon 24-70mm connected and the lens keeps rotating in autofocus mode from nearest focus to infinity permanently on boot up.

Which battery plate are you using with your Red Bricks?

Have you tried booting without the lens attached?

If that doesn't work, have you tried reinstalling the firmware?

hey phil, im using the cinemaoxide v lock adaptor...never had any issues with it in the past.

the camera assistant is on the way to our office with the camera body, I will try a firmware downgrade/ reinstall as soon as he gets here.
thanks for the help guys.

camera is here now, wont even take the firmware up/ downgrade off the SSD

i connect power to camera...led is red...I hit power button to boot up and the fans start going off but the camera wont boot...the fans keep running and fluctuating....going up and down in speed....but nothing else happens...camera body is dead.

Matt: yep stripped the camera completely with nothing but lens mount and lcd...even swapped the lens mount from canon to PL....nothing....no matter if i power through red volts, v locks or wall socket power supply....the red led comes on....then i press the power button to boot...led turns off....the fans come on and keep fluctuating in intensity and thats it...nothing else happens :/

I inserted an SSD with an older firmware to downgrade but the camera wont even get to the stage where it reads of the SSD.

Shoot a RMA email Urgent, They can help you out.
Good Luck with that.

I had a similar issue but this was with one of my M's in the earlys.
And after the RED light appears , the Yellow light starts to blink and fun go nuts.
Not the same issue as you stated.
Sorry to hear that.
Hope you get this done ASAP.
Cheers

Hey Raphael,

RMA ticket requested but i doubt there is anything that can be done apart form sending the camera in...I cant even send the guys a log file because we didnt even get around to shoot any footage today with todays configuration and everything. it really looks like the camera body is bricked at this stage. which is bizarre because I have been shooting with the same firmware and exact same gear/ equipment for probably 40 hours in the last 10 days alone and haven't had a single issue. The camera worked fine last night before I packed up the gear for the hire and the bam...this morning it wont boot :/

Did you leave your camera on- on standby while covered, and the fans in adaptive setting? I am telling from personal experience: Last week I went on a shoot with the new firmware. It was a hot day, strong humidity- a typhoon was approaching and messed up with the weather. I forgot to switch off the camera, put it on a bag for 1o minutes when we changed locations. We travelled by car with AC so there was no particular issue with temperature. When i removed the camera from the bag, I saw it was on and was deeply concerned. Temperature of sensor was at 68C. The thing is, the moment I removed from the bag, and with the very hot outside temperatures, it was not cooling down and actually raising its temperature. I immediately switched it off and waited for a couple of minutes. Having read some of the user experiences here, I went to the menu and changed fans to Auto mode, which immediately kicked in at full force, putting the sensor back into regular temperature.

My guess is that something similar- overheat- happened. I have not used the camera after this shoot but would suggest going auto fan mode and use adaptive only when audio or silence is needed. My personal experience. Am using the old fans configuration.

Sergio: dont think overheating could have been an issue, I always leave my camera on auto mode for the type of shoots I do (hardly ever record location sound) and the last few days I shot in very controlled environments with no heat issues really.

Thanks guys, yeah I figured there wouldn't be any other way than sending the old gal in for an evaluation :/

I had a similar problem with my Scarlet Try using a red volt or power supply to boot up Sometimes V lock batteries as they age don't seem to boot up the camera

that was my first thought too John but I tried redvolts in the quad module, redvolts in the side handle, v locks with battery plate, v locks with belt cradle as well as mains power supply but none are able to boot up the camera.

If you tried to boot and force upgrade the completely! stripped off body running on AC I don't believe there's anything but sending it in :( I had a similar thing a month ago. They needed to switch a board.

Depending on the firmware there's a log file on your redmag. Just pop it into the reader and check for it. Camera writes a log when shutting down. Go look for it.

Oh and you did the hold down power button for 20 sec reset?

From Trent:

When using the long hold to reset to defaults you need to hold down the power button until the fans kick on 100% (this may be more around 15-20 seconds). Don't let go of the power until then. I would recommend trying this once or twice before you are out in the field if it makes you more comfortable knowing you can get back to a known state.
