Epic W Rolling Shutter

Hello everyone.

Is anybody here talking about EpicW rolling shutter? Just seen 5k 96fps and it does not look useable. Any information when new color science/processing reboot coming out?

are you seeing jello, smear, shear or a combination of all? are you staying inside "acceptable" pan speed parameters? does it exhibit this with a motion mount as well?

the camera is stabile, smear would be a good use of terms, this is only at the higher rates like 96, 48 has worked awesome for me

Well. Its massive jello... I have to say that rolling shutter was the very first thing I've noticed after turning on the camera for the first time. It was 8k 25fps.. maybe got used to alexa mini solid performance with my style of shooting. Althought 'Underdog' has very 'loose' handheld but not noticing jello there.. possibly 'weapon's bigger horse power or heavy post?

I did a shoot 8k 24fps, I cant share the link right now, but it was a handleheld style rap video, no jello at all, what is your angle set to?

shutter angle does have an impact on rolling shutter. It will be more apparent if the shutter is "open" for longer.

At 24 I have seen nothing like that, but then again I am not trying to show an example, that for sure is pretty extreme

Unless the camera has a Global Shutter, this issue will be the case. To eliminate the rolling shutter in a RED camera, you most likely need to invest in the motion mount.

does the motion mount eliminate this completely along with flicker, battling some serously bad flicker issues lately with all the cheap uplighting at venues

btw here is 100fps, no issues though, forget what my range hood has for lights, but there is at least 3 different light sources here

I think we may be confusing "rolling shutter" with judder.

Don't forget 5K on Epic-W is VERY CROPPED. So the FOV is very tight. The result is that pans will have much more JUDDER than at 8K.

Something to keep in mind.

This has nothing todo with the camera.

This is just the physics of shooting 23.98 on a tight FOV.

I definitely noticed more rolling shutter than expected at 6K.

So far, nothing unusable, but it's good to be aware of.

I thought it would be better than dragon since its never. I never had any issues with epic mx but I wander if this is slower than mx? That 5k klipp was not that fast pans.
